Hanners and the Rising Star

I just read this article about Dustin Martin, and at the end, it goes through the top 5 Rising Star nominees in a number of stats. Hanners makes these lists once (4th for contested possesions).
Does that seem a little strange to anyone else given he's the favourite to take it out?

A bit odd perhaps, but it makes a certain sort of sense. Hanners is a very complete player with no particular dominant aspect. He can win both contested and uncontested ball, he can drift forward and kick goals, he has at times had to deal with tags, and he is a very good mark (but obviously can't be expected to compete with his KP fellow nominees). He is also playing with a far more experienced and well established midfield than most others, meaning he is often relegated to roles on the wing and with less game time than he might otherwise get, but his class, talent and input is still very obviously there to see despite this. He has also played very, very regularly, while some others clogging up those top 5 stats have played less than 5 games this year. He has also, importantly, shown an ability to take charge, show leadership, and put in genuine BOG (or near enough) performances, which very few RS eligible players have done.

While I don't think Hanners is anywhere near a certainty for the RS, stats certainly don't tell the whole story. He'd be top 10 in all of those stats mentioned the article, which I would hazard to guess few other nominees could boast, has done this with less opportunity (structurally speaking) than most, and has at times taken his game to a greater, more dominant level than most, if not all, of the nominees.

In saying that, if Martin was eligible, I reckon he'd deserve it. He has been fantastic for the Tigers this year.
