Pyke signs to Swans for two years

Pyke signs to Swans for two years - Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club

'Pyke, 26, has now played a total of 20 games and is developing into a valuable big man for the Club - and a trailblazer for athletes converting to AFL from the rugby codes.

The Sydney Swans General Manager, Football, Dean Moore, says Pyke has impressed the coaching staff with his dedication, commitment and athleticism.

?He has improved significantly this year and we believe that progress will continue,?? Moore said. ?Mike?s transition to the AFL is an extraordinary achievement, and testament not only to his athletic abilities but to his determination and strong character.??'

Pyke said he was excited to know he had a real future at the Swans.

Well deserved deal for Mike Pyke. Has certainly improved at a exponential rate.

          Yay! We like Mike.

So now what do we make of Daniel Currie's comment about being told that it was by no means certain what the ruck lineup will look like next year?? Is Seaby gone? Will Mummy be moved out of the ruck?

That may be an idea. He's fit and fast and big - and the strongest Swan. And he learns fast. I'd like to have a backup project forward to Jesse and maybe that could be Myke. It'd be interesting to see what Braddy thought of his skills and learning - and his views on his current "project" Jesse.

Great news. OK he has proved himself as a forward and a ruckman, what about a roving midfielder?

Pyke has had knockers on this forum but I hope they have been silenced by his good form in recent weeks. His understanding of the game, positioning, marking, kicking etc is much improved and there's more upside to come I reckon.

The club has promoted him to the senior list with a two year contract which says what the coaching staff think of his recent form.

Where to next year? I really think that Mummy has become our No.1 ruckman with the added dimension he brings at ground level so it's now Pyke or Seaby for the 2nd ruck position. That means can either of those two play another position if everyone is fit? Hmmm, interesting to see what develops.

I hope all those Pyke knockers have fries with your words.

                        Well done Myke Pyke!!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

The most obvious sign that Pikey has learnt and continues to learn is that he now finds himself where the ball is. He understandably ran round chasing for a while, but the team strucure is becoming natural to him..it HAS only been 18 months!
The day BTaylor acknowledges his improvement will be worth watching.
Congrats Pikey...the Swans don't throw those 2 year contracts around too easily.

I am Pyke knocker and I still am. I find this view quite laughable, Seaby is an absolute walk up start as 2nd ruck, I thought Pyke was very ordinary on Sat. night.
