I tend to agree. A lot of seats are corporate and would fill anyway, as would the package deals offered by clubs, travel agencies and promotional winners. Interstate fans make the trek to the MCG, I see nothing changing if it's moved, especially if it's the first weekend of October, with WA, SA and NSW all enjoying a three-day weekend then.Bas, I think you're wayyyyyyyyy off track there mate. They would have absolutely no problem selling out an AFL GF at ANZ, regardless of who's playing. No problem.10100111001 ;-)Comment

I couldn't see it selling out because the Corporates are all Victorian but it would be nice to host it at ANZ.
They didn't say last night whether/what points would be awarded for a bye. My assumption. In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

I would love gto see them try an AFL GF at Homebush. My opinion is that it would sell out.Occupational hazards:

AFL secure MCG for 2011 final - AFL Premiership - Fox Sports
Cricket Victoria realise they have no hope of winning any publicity wars with the AFL, GF stays at the MCG.Comment

Is that why he posted this......?
Mind you, it was always a hypothetical because it was never going to happen. Certainly not for the reasons of this issue.
Still say it would sellout EASILY....

Thank god for that. GF at Homebush would be nice and convenient but would be a travesty.
On another note, didn't ANZ seat around 120k during the Olympics?Comment

I did post that after being up early with the 18 month old son.
But I agree, wherever it would be it would be a sellout.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

They reduced seats in the outer where the flame was, but I don't think it got to 120,000 unless it included all of the athletes on the ground during the opening and closing ceremonies.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Capacity was 110,000 for the Olympics, but that included two temporary stands, one at the north end and one at the south. These were a level above the current seating and each sat 15,000. They were removed after the Olympics (along with the Olympic Torch, which was in the Northern Stand) so the ground only sits 83,000.
When the wings are pushed out to make the ground oval a few seats are lost on the wings close to the flanks. This is because the circular end is immovable and these seats on the flanks have obstructed vision. This amounts to a couple of thousand seats putting the Aussie Rules Capacity at around 80,000.Last edited by laughingnome; 7 August 2010, 10:11 AM.10100111001 ;-)Comment
