    Currie or Reid next week?

The report on the Swans' website is reporting that Mummy will miss next week. So will the club be tempted to bring in one of our two reserve beanpoles for a late season debut?

Reid has barely been out of the "bests" list all season and has played in the ruck for a few games. But it is hard to see him being thrown in there on debut at senior level so he's only likely to get the nod if they decide to sacrifice Jesse in the ruck. I hope not, because he's not very good at it, and it stifles his development as a forward.

Which brings us to Currie, who has also been named in the best a few times in recent weeks, this time with him actually playing as a ruckman. Would be my favoured option, and is helped by the fact that the Lion's main ruckman is an athlete rather than a monster.

Other choices would include LRT if he were actually in the team. But even if he is ready to resume next week, will he come straight back into the seniors? If he does, would they want to throw him in the ruck? He could come back into defence, of course, and allow Ted to pinch hit in the ruck as he has done in the past.

Wasn't Mummy out for a couple of weeks a while back, with Pyke taking #1 ruck duties? What did we do then? I vaguely remember J-Dub pinch-hitting in the ruck.. I wouldn't be surprised to see us fly to Brisbane short one recognised ruckman. I've barely seen the reserves this year though, so I wouldn't be sure whether Reid or Currie deserves a late call-up.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Yeah, I would imagine we'd go with the same system we went with during Mummy's suspension, which I think was Jesse backing up.

I'd bring in Reid to play alongside Jesse White in the forwards. When Jesse does the relief ruckwork, Goodes would go forward to slot into White's position. I'd be hesistant ot leave Reid one out against Daniel Merrett.

White only played in the first of those games, in the other we gave Hank Playfair a run in the ruck.

Which reflects how poorly Jesse normally plays in the ruck.

Looking at Brisbane's forward setup, it looks like they only have 2 tall forwards Brown and Clark. Reg and Ted could take that duo respectively, leaving LRT without a suitable match-up. If LRT was eased back into it, perhaps 35% TOG as ruck and 20% as a decoy tall that wouldn't stretch his hammy as much as chasing Brown around for 2 hours.

So there appears to be quite a few stop-gap measures, none of which really jump out at you as being the obvious solution.

Neither. Moore to come back and Shaw to go forward.

Not sure i'd want LRT rucking just back from injury. He's too valuable to risk. It wouldn't hurt to give Currie one game, he may be ok.

if he's fit LRT will come for sure. And they will work it out in the ruck, be it jesse, ted or lrt doing the backup work

i cant see them debuting anyone as we have to squeeze o'keefe and moore into the side as well

If LRT isnt fit i still think they will favour the current team to cover it. Ruck jesse when pyke needs a rest and send goodes forward

If the Swans want 2 rucks then Currie. If they want to give someone a thankyou game for being in the best for a few weeks then Reid.

LRT if fit would be my selection.

I wonder when Bradshaws 2/3 weeks out injured will be up?

Whatever happens, there'll be some creative configurations in the ruck and forward line.

If LRT's fully fit he'll get the nod. If not I guess Currie becuase of his greater ruck experience. I agree that if LRT plays the ruck will probably rotate between Pyke, him and Jesse with Ted as a backup. And Kirk at full-forward again?
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

If they intend on keeping Currie, then they should throw him in this week. We aren't a realistic premiership threat and the talk has been of 2010 as a platform, so if he 'sinks", it will be a fantastic wake up call going into the pre season and may just be the making of him.
