I recall my family talking about the so called "Blood Bath" South and Carlton final. Do you remember the so called "Lake Side Premiership" between St Kilda and South? Thats when St Kilda was at the other end of the Albert Park Lake.I lived at 356 Albert Rd so I only had to walk across the road to the South Ground.
Of course I remember the Lake Cup. I believe they had a cup that changed hands. I recall Ron Clegg playing. My dad went to the "Blood Bath". He recalls Williams poleaxing Ken Hands with the trainers propping him up against a point post.

I played a season for the under 17's as I lived in our zone in Clayton and my older brother played for the Under 19's. The legendary head trainer Bill Mitchell was there at the times and if I recall correctly he took time to work with all the club teams. One week Russell Cook did ankle ligaments just before half time and the story goes he weaved his magic and untangled the ligaments, and Cooky bounced out after half time. No jabs in those days.

We stood just to the right of the scoreboard towards the stand end for years with a group of blokes from Port Melbourne. Some intersting and humorous times were had. I lived for the 18 games and we hardly ever missed. What about the night games, how good were they.

They really were night games with the shadows in all the pockets and the crowd !
Reserved for those that did not make the top 4 in those days.

Good times .... but we move on .... to the G and beyond !!!

I remember the night games There were a few "Blind spots"around the ground I don't know if they ever got the lights right. I used to stand next to the goal posts Grandstand end. I can remember we used to throw packets of P.K. chewing gum to Freddy Goldsmith. he put them in his socks I think he chewed gum all the game. Do you remember "Canvas Back Boyd" The day he GOT John Nichols of Carlton,The poor blighter got 18 weeks for that never played for the Bloods again.

I dont know, maybe I'm being paranoid here, but I'm convinced the Melbourne media here are doing everything can to get the Bulldogs fired up for a win over the swans this week with some of the reporting and articles going around at the moment.

As far as the Melbourne media not dedicating much time or credit to the swans, well this has been going on for a while now. I'm convinced its got to do with the fact that their own team they(media personality) support is not travelling so well and they've truely had enough of the swans doing consistently well, that they refuse to acknowledge it. Have become very used to it by now. What annoys me the most are ignorant supporters who cant think for themselves and just believe the tired old lines that most of these media experts churn out all the time about the swans. I mean there are some poeple/supporters out there who are convinced that we are still a bottom 4 side, you know, this year was a fluke and we'll bottom out next year...because they heard Hutchy say it 2 years ago. I mean for @@@@s sake people grow a brain. Watch a few games and decide for yourselves.

I kid you not, I was listening to some talk back, I think it was last night on SEN, this Carlton supporter comes on and starts to go on about how dissapointed he is with the Blues because they couldnt get over a team like the swans...because apparently, according to him, we're a very old team, with a very outdated gamestyle, not very good youngsters, easily a bottom 4 team who Carlton should beat easily each and every time. No bull@@@@!!!! This is a CARLTON supporter saying this stuff and actually believing it!!!

Does he not remember that we have won 12 out of our last 13 encounters, most of them pretty easily too. God some people just @@@@ me.

The fine line between undying passion for a side and blind stupidity is blurred at times. We all want to hope and believe that our team can win everything no matter what, but at some point reality must set in.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
