There's been plenty of chatter about Mitchell being traded, probably just speculation due to the number of classy midfielders we have coming through the system. But most of the pundits rate Mitchell a pick 4 or 5 if there aren't concerns about his ankle. I can't see Mitchell going for less than a top 10. He hasn't played many games, but he's shown that he can excel at AFL level, something the new recruits have yet to do. Injury concerns aside, he's a proven player and that has to go into the equation.
I'd very much doubt we would take anything but a 1st rounder for a player with such talent - even with injury concernse!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

The Dees may also approach the Swans in relation to a possible trade for Tom Mitchell. The Swans are loaded with Mids and will get a another quality mid Heeney second round anyway. Mitchell can't crack it for a game at the moment but would slip right into the Dees midfield and add to it significantly. Subject to a medical of course. Mitchell has already had some quality development time at the Swans.
Mitchell is an interesting name to bring up. Excellent midfielder and the best player not getting a game for his club at the moment and by the length of Flemmington. There isn't a team he wouldn't be starting for in the competition and he still has the ability to become a top 20 midfielder in the game.
Sydney are an interesting club. They just can't fit Mitchell into that midfield. Then they're getting Heeney at years end as a near Swallow level talent so that's another guy who they have running through that deep midfield.
Sydney if a quality ruckman or key defender can be given up may sacrifice him.
I find in watching Mitchell for Sydney his play particularly through the midfield and I'm sure there will be some stats somewhere to support this but his contribution to Sydney's midfield takes away from Josh Kennedy's production which is my feel beyond his early season inconsistency as to why he's not playing in the Sydney team at present.
Both Mitchell as Kennedy is, they're both volume midfielders who both play like number one ball winner options and they get in the way of eachother in that Sydney midfield. I'm not nearly suggesting that they can't co-exist, they can and Mitchell in my view should be playing now in the seniors the way he's playing but another club could certainly get more value from what Mitchell offers than Sydney can.
Whether Sydney would feel tempted to move on a F/S selection I do not know. Hawthorn did it with Josh Kennedy coincidently. So it's plausible but it would need to be a strong, strong deal for anything to happen.
Melbourne could always throw their first round selection at Sydney and ask for Mitchell and the rarely used Gary Rohan to inject some pace as a really interesting example of a trade that would probably help both clubs giving Melbourne some more guys who can help now and Sydney clearing up some salary cap space and securing a long term tall - perhaps a key defender.Comment

Tom Mitchell isnt just a midfielder, hes a great in and under player. Do any of the potential drafts fit this mold? He's also a great player. I'd prefer to lose someone else.Comment

John Ralf said in his column that Callum Mills (2015draft) could be better than Heeney and be a definite pick one if on the open market.
This midfield depth reminds me of young West Indies fast bowlers of the 80s continually coming through.Comment

According to some pundits Heeney is the most complete midfielder in the draft. I would imagine that he would possess Mitchell's in and under capability, but also had speed to break the lines.

Talk of Mills being a clear number one for next year is bunkum, as far I can tell. He may well be a fine prospect but it's rare for the likely number one pick to be clear cut more than a year out from the draft, especially if they're a medium sized midfielder without blistering speed. I think Ralph is just (deliberately) feeding the hysteria that seems to be building over the pair.
Even Quayle listing Davis as a likely top 25 player I suspect is a little of the same. He's still very raw and given how many quality talls are being touted, it seems a little OTT. At the start of the year he was being spoken of as a possible draftee. His performances for the RAMs in TAC Cup games seem to have been good, rather than dominant and in a side generally beaten quite comfortably. His first half last week against NT was again reasonable (and against a side with very few players much over 185 cm tall) and he was barely sighted in the second half because he was sent to the Siberia that was the RAMs' defence.Comment

I wonder what it would take to get the Terror to do a bit of "those jealous Victorians" kind of work in relation to this. I know Sydney's an NRL city in the eyes of the Telegraph but they do love a bit of Sydney v Melbourne baiting.

The roar is as unreliable as here for people just making It up as they go along. As for big footy, could be something in what is being said there, and the argument presented is logical. But I still think its mainly a few minds dreaming at this stage and that's it."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Just said that there was chatter that was not restricted to RWO and Matt80. Probably none of it has any substance. It's only to say that other people can foresee a burgeoning of midfield talent at the Swans and suspect that other clubs will try to lure some away. It seems logical. We certainly would. We jumped right in when the opportunity to nab Tippett and Franklin arose and really took advantage of Hawthorn's powerful midfield a few years back when we got Josh and Benny for next to nothing.Comment

She isn't fixing. Emma has no interest in the politics of AFL. Most keys look very raw at U 18s level.
He will definately go top 40 in the draft unless he does something very wrongYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment
