Swans Academy and player watch

Participation as a FS is entirely optional for a player so it can't automatically take precedence. Not sure if players are entitled to decline to be nominated as an Academy player, given they will have benefitted from the training provided by the Academy. Under the old scholarship rules, a player couldn't be declined to be placed on the sponsoring club's senior list, but they were able to decline an automatic rookie list spot if they wanted to take their chances that another club might take them in the National Draft.Comment

The order is moot as it's up to the player to decide which club he wants to join. He can refuse F/S like Marc Murphy famously did.Comment

Heeney and Mills were selected in the AFL All Australian U18 squad. They are both in the starting line up.
Eddie would be proud of the academy progress.
I noticed that Dunkley did not make it to the U18 squad. Has be been playing well for Victoria Country?Comment

Spot on Collingwood amongst others have made some poor recruiting decisions in recent years and are trying to deflect criticism
I think we will find that AFL's desire to grow north of the Barassi line will exceed many of the complaints. Academies grow the sport and participation.
AFL should find there courage and say itComment

Would you put your mortgage and a place for your children in a elite Melbourne Private School at great risk?
It's easier to call a review, take some time and politely come to the conclusion that you want i.e. The Academy's are here to stay.Comment

Saw on the AFL website an article about the upcoming U16 championships and named the players to watch as Harrison Macreadie and Tom Highmore. Does anyone know if either are in our Academy?Comment

Found an interesting short piece on Isaac Heeney on a website called Footy Prophet. A footy fantasy team website reviewing the top 10 rookies for next year.
"Heeney has emerged as the no. 1 midfield talent in this year?s draft pool which is a huge stroke of luck for the Sydney Swans who can lock him in as an Academy selection with their first round pick. Heeney is simply the most well-rounded midfielder in this draft. He has great ability to win the ball, but also can put on speed and break lines, and has a great penetrating kick. Looks like a potential superstar at AFL, and should be a terrific fantasy player.
Where?s he headed?:@Sydney, who are laughing themselves."
Yes we are laughing Eddie, but we have put the work into him.Comment

As excited I am to be getting a talent like Heeney on to the list for next year, after watching the U18 championships game the other day I think that Mills may even be a more exciting prospect! He just looked classy and clean and with another 12 months development could turn into something special! I know it's only 1 game some I'm not one to judge who will be the better player Heeney v Mills but am interested in the thoughts from the ressies and rams watchers on here?Comment

I've only watched one ressie game so have no runs at all and have never seen Mills.
But ...
Heeney blew me away.
It wasn't just his game it was his swagger. He has a presence about him.
Looks like a star in the making.Comment
