Interestingly, the article makes the point that Mills was playing representative rugby before entering the academy. I'm sure this is meant to short-circuit some anticipated angst from certain Melbourne-based presidents.

WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CAN MAKE YOU SERIOUSLY ILL

This time Eddie McGuire has used The Footy Show to take another swipe at the Swans, Longmire and trumpeting once again that the Swans' Academy is an unfair advantage.

        see: he-wont-work-with-me-eddie

This is perhaps the most cringe-worthy of all of McGuire's underhanded filthy acts. He is now effectively saying that Longmire is 'UnAustralian' for not working with him on the International Rules team.

Some of the statements made by McGuire are so sickening, I cannot bring myself around to repeat them here.

Eddie put himself before the game by making the comment re Adam Goodes

In Eddies world he is number 1 not the Australian public nor the Australian rep AFL team

Can someone let Eddie know that John doesn't want to be his friend.

            Neither does Adam.
            Or Sydney ...

The international rules series is not taken seriously. Longmire probably wants to spend some valuable off season time with his family. Spending off-season time with Eddie is probably not appealing. Life is too short.

I am concerned that I actually whole heartedly agree with Matt80 on a subject on this forum. Just goes to show McWhiner is just galvanising Swans supporters.

I am sure Horse's response was along the lines of "you cannot be serious you likened my friend and premiershop captain to a gorilla"

The only thing more pathetic than Eddies rants, is the sycophants on the footy show not challenging his ridiculous claims.

What a bunch of Jelly backs.

Mind you not surprising, Brayshaw forced his own club to change jerseys for a home game, to placate Eddie.

Another funny aspect of the situation is that Longmire passed on a role of being an assistant coach in the international rules series.

Why would someone who is one of the top five rated senior coaches in the AFL give up his holiday with kids to be an assistant coach on the international rules series? It's naive to think that Longmire would be interested in wasting his time in that way. Being as assistant coach with Eddie breathing down your neck. Longmire thinks his family is more important than that time wasting crap.

It's hardly representing Australia for an AFL player to say that you beat the Irish in a full on punch up because you spend your work day lifting weights, while the Irish work real jobs and probably have to beg their bosses for some time off to play in the series.

Alistair Clarkson is the senior coach...

That said, if Longmire doesn't want to spend time on the IR series, that's his entirely his call, regardless of whether he's not interested in the competition, doesn't wish to spend the time, doesn't want to play second fiddle as an assistant coach, or just can't stand Eddie Maguire.

They seemed pretty confident that the only reason the Swans gave was the Eddie thing...seems strange! Surely Sydney would just say he'd prefer the time off,

Alastair Clarkson will hopefully have a few extra weeks up his sleeve than Longmire

No I didn't think they were confident at all, hence "I have heard indirectly that John has made that decision because of that, and that is disappointing". To me McGuire has just decided that's the reason and because he is who he is, the footy show has taken it and run with it.

Its this part of the article that made me laugh, "When it comes to Australia, I put self-interest aside." Since when has that douche bag EVER put anything ahead of himself? Judging by the size of his head and his ego, I would think even his family would run a poor second.

That was the statement that stood out for me too!
Let me re-phrase Eddie "When it comes to the good of football in Australia, I put self-interest aside"

This is the same guy who said "I don't shy away from putting the interest of the Collingwood Football Club ahead of the AFL. I'm the President!"
The same guy who the AFL admits is a significant player and voice who they listen to.
The same guy who the AFL included in the 'Equalization team' to travel to the USA.

Boy, I'd love to interview him on radio/TV and turn the heat up on questions. And not let him dance around the issues.
