I can handle a game (like the 06 GF) where one side gives it their all and comes up short. Those games -are- relevant because there has been a result. The reason last Saturday is completely irrelevant because no winner was decided. What exactly is the point of having a GF without deciding a winner?

When the ball is bounced this Saturday, what does last Saturday actually mean in the grand scheme of things? Sweet @@@@ all.

The only thing farcical here is that we have to go through everything again. And the AFL knows it's farcical. That's why they have said there will be extra time if it's a draw this week, which is what should of happened last week.

A draw is in fact a result! Not a pleasant one and obviously not a very acceptable result to many but a result none the less. A draw means both teams are dead equal after the game has finished. So some want to play some more time till one side wins, some even want that ridiculous soccer rule of penalty shoot out. Some want anything other than the simple result that after the game was finished no side won,no side lost.

To play the game again a week later is the most ethical, sensible and respectful to the players and club solution for everyone. This gives both these teams the chance to win the premiership again within the rules and the time alloted. If by sheer miracle it was a draw again I would support giving two cups ,just like when the Brownlow is tied they give two medals.

A draw is a result in the regular season when 2 points are awarded to each team, however the objective of finals is to eliminate teams until the two remaining teams play off in the Grand Final, with the reward for the Grand Final winner being the premiership. I would therefore argue that a drawn Grand Final is not a result and it would have been preferable in my opinion to play extra time. That said, I'm more than happy to sit down and watch another game of footy this weekend!

The team that scores most in extra time is then the Premier. All kinds of things are wrong with this and could make it unfair . eg injuries, weather, umpiring mistakes in extra time, etc etc, things that balance out over 100 minutes. It will leave one team the winner but not a winner in a normal game of Aussie rules but the winner in extra time..the 20 minute game played after the main game...quite an extraordinary circumstance.I would rather give both teams the cup.they both have proved by the draw that they deserve it. Why is it so important to have just one winner when these two teams are dead equal.? We have dual winners in about everything else. Who gets the gold in the Olympic Games if it is a dead heat in a race? They both do!

I don't understand when people say there wasn't a result? There was - the word is called, 'Draw'. I know I might be in the minority but I don't mind it. They couldn't split themselves so come back again next week. Everyone expects a result these days. Instant gratification. People will still be pumped up on Saturday come game time. It's old school and it's cool. And the people crapping on about how it's ruined their Wedding for this week, blah blah blah. Get over it.

Imagine in 05 or 06 if there was a replay and you were getting married the same day and you miss your team maybe winning a premiership. Would you just "get over it" ??? Do the supporters who spent a fortune in attending last week and can't back up again should they just "get over it". How about those supporters who can't get time off work now to watch the replay (like me this week do they just "get over it"

I would be gutted if I was getting Married the next Weekend, but then again I wouldn't organise a Wedding the Weekend after. And I would be angry at myself for my stupid luck, not the AFL. Every die hard knows that it could have happened. And for every supporter that can't watch it this Weekend for one reason or another, there is another person that couldn't watch it last week that can now : )

People will always find something to complain about. I admit, there would not be as many people complaining if it had gone to extra time but everyone who has an idea knew that wasn't going to happen. If the AFL looks at changing the rule, interrupting people's social agendas the following Weekend should not be a deciding factor : )

The replay rule has been around for more than 60 years, so this was hardly a shock. The only thing that has changed is that everybody now apparently thinks the world has a duty to organise itself around them.

This, and everything that Harti has said. It's a bizarre situation but it's the right one. Our footy is won by playing 80 minutes of footy. Changing the means by which you win the match is tantamount to not bothering with our game. That is the primary reason why soccer suck arse!

Yes the should 'get over it' considering a draw has always meant coming back the next week.

I think there would have been more people complaining because Collingwood would have lost with the momentum being with St Kilda at the end of the game. They would have been bitching and moaning big time (read more than usual).
