Vaginal bruising, footage of them meeting in the club showing one person being aggressively interested, party(ies) being intoxicated, these are all things that can be tested but none conclusively points to a crime being committed. Then you've got the problem of the claimant having to testify in court. Sexual assault is a devestating, emotionally crippling crime and having to face the alleged attacker can bring the hardiest claimant undone. I have no doubt that there are more sexual assaults then the low number that are convited for the drime every year. The second tragedy to these occurring is that it is so damn hard to prove them beyond reasonable doubt.
Let me give another side of the story.

My Cousin went to a party many years ago, met a girl, they went home, had sex, she returned to the party. The next morning she decided to report it as a rape.

After originally being found guilty, he was cleared when she confessed that he hadn't raped her. Whilst originally being in jail for the conviction, he became hooked on heroine.

The druig habit fired his brain, he was cared for by my uncle and auntie until he was bashed in Hastings (Vic) last year and after being in a coma for 2 weeks died.

Whilst I can't blame the lying girl for Michael's death, her false accusation was the start of a downward spiral that ended with his violent death last year.

You talk about victims, Michael was victim who was the falsely accused.

Absolutely shocking story GS14... But so right that he was the victim.

I would love to see a law brought in that if a woman make false allegations like that, she gets done for public mischief or something similar. Give her the day in court she deserves, and leave the justice to those TRUE victims of assault who need the system on their side.

Totally agree. A horrible state of affairs. I'm sorry that happened to your cousin.

Absolutely! A terrible thing to have happen. I do believe that the false accuser should be made to compensate the person who's life they have @@@@@@

In the absence of any real evidence, it is impossible for anyone, media or general public, to be making any comments here. Investigations into these type of matters often go either way. There are notorious young men who do inappropriate things to women, particularly when fuelled by alcohol. But there are also women who, when the dust has settled and the morning has arrived, feel ashamed of themselves and forget that they consented to sexual contact, or even worse, deliberately make false allegations. Every case is different.

I totally agree with Eddie here, (can't believe I am writing this), that the names of all concerned should not be publicly disclosed in this case. Neil Mitchell was wrong, ethically wrong, to publicly reveal the names of the Collingwood players on his radio show.

Where I have a real problem consequently is why the recent allegations against Fev were made so openly, with a situation where that particular player was not only named straight away, but judged by many, including media commentators. Sounds like a very much double standard situation.

If you saw the documentary on this sort of thing last night on SBS you'd understand what he was saying. The man does have a right to an opinion and to express it in any media he wishes to. Comments on social media sites such as this, facebook, twitter etc are so easily misunderstood because they are often one sentence blurbs that do not clarify. I mean who would want to sit on a social networking site and write a thesis on their thoughts? @@@@ that.

By the way... The naming of those facing police questioning was a disgraceful act.
