Before we had Pay-TV, doe you recall how many games were on FTA TV and how many of them were screened live? Pay-TV has changed the way sport is broadcast in this country and has forced the lazy FTA networks to lift their game. I appreciate that there are some people who don't have Fox because they can't afford it but many others choose to allocate their financial priorities elsewhere. If you want something badly enough, you find a way to make it happen. I love live sport, so I pay for Foxtel. It's that simple. The ones I feel for are the people who want to get connected but can't because of geographical or strata reasons.
The Pay TV system we have here is a long way from perfect - a succession of poor govt decisions saw to that - but it's far better than what we had before. If you think you can trust the FTA networks to handle rights on their own then you're kidding yourself. The whole idea of an anti-siphoning list is ridiculous for the most part. Look at what Channel Nein does with the cricket. They cut to the news and viewers miss out on seeing some of it without any alternative. There should definitely be a "use it or lose it" policy though. When you bid for the rights to any sport, the contract should stipulate how the event should be screened. If, for example, Nein can't commit to screening every ball of the cricket then they should be scrubbed from contention.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

One Friday (Delayed), Sat Arvo(delayed if in Melb), Sat night(delayed if in Melb), The Early game on Sund (usually the swans LIVE ) and then a delay of another Sunday game.
No, it hasn't improved things for us.Comment

Further thoughts from Greg Baum:
Fans can't be fans if they can't see the game
I think he's right about the value of exposure. And he exposes Demetriou's duplicity - or is that plain stupidity?
In fact I think about the only thing i disagree with is the execrable "The proof is in the pudding". It's not in the bloody pudding; the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Disgraceful. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

It seems comments made specifically directed towards a pers
on or people cannot be answered in the same way so I shall try again.
I would have thought that in your avaerage of 20 posts per week on an internet sports forum, you would have seen enough comments about what we fan in Melbourne are missing out on to not be so rude as to belittle any comments about it.
I would have thought that in your average of over 1000 posts per year in an internet sports forum, that you would have developed more of a sense of respect for otehr Swans fans.
I hope you don't try and interpret my references to your post count as being brought on by your 'get a life' comment.

I wrote my post before the First Test started too. Sure enough, Nein cut to the news at 6 and we missed out on some of the play. It remains to be seen if the changes to the "main channel v extra channels" rules mean they'll switch it to GEM or somewhere else when the news is due. Either way they're still a joke.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment
