Where's the law that says I have to like them ... before or after they've booted up and played.
Sorry Annie, I didn't mean to cause any offence and I apologise if I did, I simply meant that I know you travel to Canberra to watch the Dogs and the Dees, knowing that your coin is going to those clubs, so I don't understand why you wouldn't attend the GWS/Swans away game.

You didn't offend Jewels. Poor Dees, they need all the money they can get!!
I realise that the likelihood of us playing them at Canberra would only be if Sydney itself was wiped off the map (Maybe, with a capital M).
I like the road trip - that's why I go to Canberra.

I support Sydney, who just happen to play in the AFL. If the AFL want a rivalry, as far as I'm concerned, they've got one.
Unlike a lot of other people, I don't have a "second" team.
My bestie grew up in Melbourne following Hawthorn and then moved to Sydney and became a swans member. He still has a soft spot for the poos and wees. (The blacktown bogans can be the vomits!!)
At times I've felt "pity" for other teams, i.e. Melbourne, Fweo and Richmond (before they secured the services of the "ex"-junkie), and I'll watch other games on TV, but I've never seen the need to show emotional and financial support in another team - especially a second Sydney team. It's just not in me to do it.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I'm not blaming you. I can't excuse the HS just because they're in Melbourne. They (and the GWB Vomits, I'm trying it on) should have done a bit more research.
It's not called the sandstone curtian for nothing!!

I reckon the alternative to the Giants shlould be "the jaffa's" or "G-strings" - sounds like a great nickname for them, like we are "the bloods" - the chant of "G-string" clap clap clap should perhaps be "g-strings, snap, snap, snap!"

Lets look it as a positive - that is being the beginning of a new great cross town rivalry. Sure some dont like it and thats fine - like the summer, autumn, winter & spring, GWS is coming and it will be here for quite some time - so lets just deal with it (its really not that hard!)

I'm also very happy in that its really making some of the leaguies quake in their boots - I love that the media up here, in some quarters, are so @@@@ scared as to the AFL's success - they havent quite worked out yet that the more they are up in arms about it and trash it in the purile way they do, the siller they look. They jump on anything that Sheeds says ,and doesnt he just love putting something out there knowing full well it will get a reaction - and the likes of Richtie, Rothfield and Wilson fall for it hook line and sinker! So really Sheedy is not only earning his keep - he's playing the media to perfection.

I'm looking forward to the first Swans V Jaffa's game!!!

Rugby League and their media have been the biggest promoters of GWS! They just don't get it, it's quite funny, I reckon the AFL just laugh at how easy it is to get a story or two in the local press on GWS.

Do you mean Sydney the club (i.e. the Swans), or Sydney the city?

I like the fact that a second Sydney team exists (although I probably would not have split it geographically the way the AFL has - particularly the name) as it promotes club rivalry, which is what the AFL is all about. It always makes me wretch when you have state premiers backing a Vic, SA, WA, QLD, or NSW team just because they made it to the finals - far too jingoistic for me.

I'd love to have multiple AFL teams in Sydney a la Melbourne. Although I guess if the Balmain Bugs came into being, I'd be sorely lured and tempted ...

Attitudes like that would see the Swans "unload" this 17 year member, trust me.

If the Swans have so many members that they can afford to get rid of some of the ones living in the western suburbs, they are doing far better than I thought they were.

You're not the only one who feels that way.

Look at windbag Wilsons column in the Tele yesterday - not one positive word, bagged the name, bagged the colours, bagged the lot. For a women who reckons she loves AFL - she's certainly being just a tad hypocritical in her comments. (mind you she does seem to on a regular basis engage mouth before brain) She then went on about the draft and what a let down it was - I mean - no one expects it to be all that exciting - what does she want? dinner and a show as part of the "draft experience" ???. We wait and see what transpires I guess.

I don't know about you guys but now that Sheeds has come out with his 'think big, live big' mantra I'm actually looking forward to having a proper rivalry. I don't know if GWS will work but I think the AFL has gone about this the right way - by building the Giants' "brand" first, interest in the code will hopefully follow. The west of Sydney is still an aspirational region and GWS is trying to tap into that by targeting kids aged 6-10. It is a tough ask, but I kind of hope it works, because it will be great for the code and the region if it does - GWS will NEVER usurp the Swans but they can relieve us of some of the burden of promoting the game in NSW and hopefully allow us to concentrate on more important stuff, like winning premierships!
