Personally given the talent Tuck has I would say his worth the risk, but that said he would need a ton of support and even then things might not work out.

Ah Primmy, I love your "unbiased" views on our players :-) If Kruger is only a recent convert to our code there is probably still lots of upside to him. Surely, given his now obvious big tank and the stupid new interchange rules we must give him a rookie place and fast track his development.Comment

As well as playing AFL, Eugene is also a national representative over the 400m hurdles.Comment

Trav "ned kelly" Johnstone is not a bad player and if peanuts is all he demands then maybe................my gut feeling is we will peak in 2011 or 2012 so an extra experienced midfield player couldnt hurt............the roster we have is a great compliment of youth and experience........but Goodes, Kennelly, Bolton, Bolton, ROk, Shaw, Braddy etc leaving by approx end of 2012 or so will have a huge effect
I hate to say it but we need Braddy out there for 20 games plus and finals series to ensure we peak 2011, 12"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Whilst I?m bunkered down from the very hot day I thought I?d do some work on the likely types for the Rookie Draft. I think ruckmen would be the only type of player we wouldn?t go for. We?re at pick 21 so here?s 21 kids to think about
AFL Phantom Draft players not taken at suggested live selection number
35 Jake VonBertouch 192cm KPF
37 Josh Walker 194cm KPF 14 plus beep test, training with Geelong
46 Daniel Nicholson 183cm running back, 20yo Vic Amateur, training with Melbourne
51 Justin Monaco 191cm KPD outstanding U18 carnival, training with Freo
52 Thomas Schneider 178cm hard inside midfielder, training with Port
56 Sam Menagola 192cm KP 15 plus beep test, training with Freo
57 Zac Fitzgerald 192cm KPF twice best for SA at carnival
58 Declan Reilly 197cm Ruckman ? we don?t need ruckmen!
59 Matthew Rankine 179cm Fwd/outside mid, pace and skills, training with Freo
60 Max Otten 193cm HB/wing good play reader, good kick, Andy?s brother
65 Jamie Solly 192m KPB/F strong and exceptional kick
66 Brad Harvey 184cm mid, outstanding draft camp results, training with Melbourne
68 Blayne Wilson 188cm Def, good reader, good in traffic, training with WCE
69 Ben Casley 189cm HF/HB
74 Isiah Stevens 183cm Fwd, indigenous, quick, good leap
75 Anton Hamp 193cm Fwd
76 Tom Gordon 195cm KPB/F good contested mark, good kick
Others not in Phantom Draft but touted as possible selections
Hayden Yarran 186cm indigenous forward/mid, good kick
Nathan Batley 186cm quick defender
Cameron Johnston 181cm fwd/mid, quick with very long kick, training with Melbourne
Aaron Mullett 183cm mid, 4th in agility at camp, good kick
Delisted players not taken at National Draft, not likely to be taken at the PSD but mentioned in dispatches. None get me too excited
Jay Neagle 2005 Father/Son Essendon, Full Forward who has knuckled down after his shock delisting. Probably be Essendon?s first pick in the RD so unlikely to be available. His father Merv played for Swans in the 80s
Robert Eddy 2008 rookie elevation St.Kilda, med mid, I think he is a list clogger which is why he got delisted, adds nothing to us - NO
Beau Dowler 2005 ND pick 6 Hawthorn, KPD/F, looks to have ability but couldn?t make it at the Hawks, hmmmm
Stephen Tiller 2004 ND pick 54 Western Bulldogs, 191cm Utility. Never did much at the Dogs, three thoughts on him ? NO, NO and NO
Travis Johnstone 1997 ND pick 1 Brisbane, outside mid. Laconic career waste of talent who will be overlooked by everyone, including us at 30yo
Garry Moss 2006 ND pick 56 then rookie at Hawthorn, inside/outside mid, ball magnet as a junior, Swans barracker! Is he training with us?
Ranga Ediriwickrama, NSW Scholarship, rookie at Geelong, inside mid, ball magnet and clearance king at underage level for ACT/NSW, hamstring problems ever since. Could be worth a look if medico?s give clearance
Beau Muston, 2005 ND pick 22 Hawthorn, mid, twice did knees before playing AFL, stunning debut game shown glimpses since but not consistency. Has he nominated for PS & RD? Be a gamble.Last edited by 707; 1 December 2010, 04:29 PM.Comment

There has been some debate over the value of late ND picks and Rookie Draft picks so here are some facts.
In the 2010 there were 115 rookies on AFL lists. Only 27 of them got promoted to the senior list at the recent ND, that's just 23% who got promoted.
Also, just getting promoted doesn't mean that they will have a successful career, look at some of our recent rookie promotions in O'Dwyer, Barlow and Thornton.
So 23% gets cut down even further, meaning the chances of someone you pick up as a rookie making it as a long term player are probably as low as one in seven or eight. Not good odds, it really is a numbers game so you need to try as many as you are allowed under your list management rules. But, as we Swannies know, the rookie list may just unearth you a gem so try as many of them as you can.
Whilst were are talking low % outcomes, the Irish experiment is also proving a low return for clubs. Am I correct in thinking Tadgh is the only player (post Stynes/Wight) in the modern era to make the grade? Have I missed anyone?Comment

I didn't forget Marty but didn't include him as he went home, it appears never to return. Probably played around 50 games? As he is now a delisted player, for Collingwood to get him back now it would have to be via the perils of the draft, unless he stands out of footy for a further two years.
Perusing delisting lists for the past few years there is a big list of Irishmen which makes Tadgh's 180 odd games to date so meritorius.Last edited by 707; 24 November 2010, 03:37 PM.Comment
