Of the delisteds I only like Ryan Cook, who can play. Big chance Kruger and Moss will be rookie listed. Others that sound interesting are
Josh walker, Zac Fitzgerald, Sam Menegola and Brad Harvey.

Given the only advantage we have over gws is that we can prelist nsw rookie players before gws get the first 8 picks in the regular rookie draft im hoping we score some players that way. But apart from Krueger and maybe Bed Reid can't see too many being considered.

Will we be picking up Garry Moss in the PSD? I read an article last week suggesting that we may however I believe there are no spots left on the list? Perhaps as a rookie I assume.

He's training with us in the hope of being rookie listed is my understanding.

Neagle set to rejoin Bombers as rookie
Also training with the Bombers with an eye to the rookie draft have been former Sydney player Ryan Brabazon and 204cm former NBL basketballer Chris Molitor.

Bombers rule out taking Bruce - AFL.com.au

Hird said former Sydney Swans player Ryan Brabazon, who is training with the Bombers, will be considered for either a rookie or primary list spot next Tuesday.

Good on Braba, I didn't think I would see him again at AFL level but hope he proves me wrong.

Yes he can play. You wouldn't have picked him as a toppie in the games he plaid, and I rated him from his first game, and that pretty much says it all!!!!!!

To be honest, he mixed it with the best of the ressies and just slotted in, worked, got to the contest and was very effective. Not a great deal of difference between him, LJ, Sam, Cuz, Cambo etc, and they got paid to play. And he was invited to train with the Swans, so its not just me who rates him.

Not a Barlow. Poor Ed, we still haven't forgiven him....

In the 2010 there were 115 rookies on AFL lists. Only 27 of them got promoted to the senior list at the recent ND, that's just 23% who got promoted.

Also, just getting promoted doesn't mean that they will have a successful career, look at some of our recent rookie promotions in O'Dwyer, Barlow and Thornton.

So 23% gets cut down even further, meaning the chances of someone you pick up as a rookie making it as a long term player are probably as low as one in seven or eight. Not good odds, it really is a numbers game so you need to try as many as you are allowed under your list management rules. But, as we Swannies know, the rookie list may just unearth you a gem so try as many of them as you can.
Let's call it a nice round 10% who really make it as long-term senior players from the rookie list. That means that if the Swans use their full complement of rookies-- this year, 10-- we can expect it's basically guaranteed we will get one quality long-term player off the list. Keep using your full complement of rookies (something we've neglected to do of late), and you keep accumulating, slowly but steadily, long-term players who have cost you nothing in ND terms.

As the years go by, clubs who use their rookie list well will start to accumulate a bigger and bigger advantage over those who use it poorly or barely at all. This is why the AFL had to step in and provide tied funding to allow financial basketcases North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs to pick their full complement of rookies, from circa 2008.

The AFL 'All Australian who came via the rookie list' side, would be a mighty strong team. Certainly, no-one would @@@@ with the rucks available to it-- Cox, Sandilands and Mumford.

Add Jolly and Jamar to that list too. So essentially, the four best performed ruckmen of 2010 (as judged by the AA selection panel) plus the most consistently good ruckman of the past few years all started life as rookies.

Now compare that with the ruckmen drafted highly.... Josh Fraser never came on, Kreuzer looks better at CHF, who knows where Naitanui will end up and to what level he'll perform, Jackson Trengove looks more like a key back, etc, etc. Just goes to show, don't use high picks on ruckmen, at least if you want them to play in the ruck!

Here's a quick team made up of 2010 listed players who were rookie elevations, and the team could probably be improved if I looked further. I did have a slight Swans bias!

So what are people thinking on who we might pickup in the rookie draft tomorrow. Obviously it looks like we will pick up Garry Moss and Eugene Krueger. But who else is on the menu.
For what its worth wouldnt mind us picking up these guys: David Kruse, Anthony Kyanga, Aaron Mullet, Brad Harvey, Ben Reid (nsw rookie selection) - all have a bit to offer.

I've seen Ben Reid play a number of times and can't get into him at all. He has nice hands but is a low possession winner who really lacks the body to compete against men.

Don't think Krueger is a definite. Last year we had another kid from the Sydney league who'd played with the reserves the previous year as a top-up (Sam "I-can't-remember-his-surname-but-Ugg-will-know-for-sure) training with the squad but he wasn't picked up as a rookie. Presumably they will only give even just a rookie list spot to a player if they think he has a reasonable chance of playing senior footy.

Last year they had Dylan McNeil up training with the squad almost the moment the ND was complete - so obviously they were pretty sold on him as a rookie as soon as he'd been confirmed as passed over in the ND. Fact that Reid doesn't appear to be training with them indicates he's not such a monty. Seems to be linked with us because there weren't many (any?) other NSW boys deemed as contenders to be taken in the main draft who weren't actually chosen.
