Waiting on exact details and the process involved but, according to the AFL draft tracker chat line, apparently you can add players in March up to the number of vacant rookie spots you have. It's how guys like Travis Tuck will end up on the Hawthorn list.

GC have previously indicated they won't go with a full list so are unlikely to add any more and who knows what GWS will do having passed on two selections. Be interesting to see if anyone else trains with us over summer.

    The order of selection is
    1 GWS
    2 GWS
    3 GC
    4 Swans
    5 Wretchmond
    6 Hawthorn
    7 Swans
    8 GC
    9 Adel Cows
    10 Hawhorn
    11 & 12 Swans

No that's not entirely accurate. You can leave one rookie spot open but you have to nominate 3 players for that spot and it had to be done today. Only Hawthorn and Richmond did this, and therefore we are not getting any more players.

This ressie watcher is happy.....toldyers.....and we get to watch him all next year instead just toppin gup.

I understand his nickname is already set......Eugene (Ussain Bolt) Kruger.....so appaently its Ussain.....of course that will probably change to Freddy.

AND Ugg thanks for the heads up re Jon Simpkin.....I am really impressed he kept at it....looks like we give the kids plenty of ground work and they keep going.....
And its good Cheese gets another go; we know he had potential, and it won't do him any harm to be dropped so he can work out what he really wants out of the game.....

Thanks for that Ugg, I didn't know what they were talking about re this March listing process but you are correct given the updated team lists just issued by the AFL.

We have the fewest number of players at 45, Brisbane Freo Melb North Melb Rich WCE and WB all have 46 and Collingwood who always seem to some how to get the best slice of everything have the most at 48. Bet Eddie isn't complaining about that! Hawthorn has 47 plus the ability to add one in March.

I still don't get why we waited until the last gasp to get Freddy. This tactic of letting 3 or so picks go through to the keeper before picking him up puzzles me....I am sure there is a reason, but .... ugg?

It's just the way they list the picks - all the pre-determined ones (including NSW scholarship elevations) are listed at the end, despite them being nominated before the rookie draft starts. Thus the Swans would have nominated Krueger at the start of the draft and he was then out of reach for any other club. If they'd wanted him, they would have had to take him in the PSD.

Once a club genuinely passes at a draft, they are not allowed to start again - but they do still get their pre-nominated selections. (It is the same in the ND, where you see clubs passing but then getting credited at the end of the draft with their rookie promotions.)

Liz is correct. We can pre nominate NSW zone selection players and that effectively stops any other club getting them. They are always your last selections so you can use earlier selections to get players in competition with other clubs. If say for instance Kruger was at our first pick 21, we wouldn't have got Max Otten as he would have gone very soon after that pick.

Max Otten was generally considered likely to go in the National Draft so to get him at pick 21 is a bit of a steal.

The Haren bloke stood out in the film clip...due to his size amongst boys..will be good if he can translate it against men.

Thanks liz, that's another bit of information I can dazzle my friends with. I wonder if we could get Larissa to suggest to the PTB that Gene take Stuey's number 11 as he took an interest in him, and also because Stuey is my favourite player of all time....

After looking through their highlights, it appears that both Otten and Haren are left footers. And from what I recall from Krueger as a topup, I believe he is a left footer as well. I wonder if Stuey Maxfield had a say in this

Otten - Longmire said they considered drafting him in the ND, very highly rated by the recruiting team and so it was a case of best player at that pick rather than a concerted effort to choose a tall. The thing that stood out for me in the highlights was his composure while playing in defence, took his time and made good decisions.
Haren - Looked very mobile and lively in his highlights. Jumps early to protect the ball, reminiscent of Goodes and has good hands. Also a very good set shot.
Krueger - Longmire praised his attitude during his training with the club. Noted that he was fast as well as an endurance runner.

After reading comments about him from some of the more knowledgeable BF draft watchers, sounds like he is more of a HBFer than a key defender. Not dissimilar height to Mattner and Kennelly.

Bad news on that front, it has been reported on BF that Jed Lamb said on his FB that he is wearing 11.
