I don't think its a case of one year too many for Kirky, in fact I think he called it at the right time.

The only thing I would say is that he slowed down significantly at the end of the year and his final game against the doggies was pretty bad to watch. The only positive I could find on the night was that Brad Johnson looked just as crocked!

No doubt the November 2010 list. It is a younger list again with no one obviously in their final year in 2011. It has a host of players who we now KNOW can play at a high level not just hoping they can.

It boasts a NAB Rising star, a Kennedy and McGlynn we know can play at a top level, it has a Jetta, Rohan and TDL with a full year under their belts, it now has three genuine ruckmen, it has a new Club Champion who is no longer just a tagger, it has proven depth for KP backs and running backs and it's a list full of proven exciting pace.

No doubt in my mind how much better we know we are this year :-)

He was slow all year IMO, I actually think he went on one year too many, but who knows, we may of even knocked the doggies over if we had a faster midfielder in that night instead of kirk (OR if bradshaw doesnt miss sitters from the goal square!), BUT we could not of possibly dropped kirky for his last game.

But that means nothing compared to the TLM.

No doubt in my mind the list this year has great potential. Better than last year? Given we had a bad run with injuries to important players last year and ended where we did, things are promising if the list is improved. I think we have gained more than we have lost but only time will tell..

On Kirky, I think he deserved his spot this year and his on field performances justified that. He set such a high standard and the drop to the standard he played at this year was looked at as poor because it didn't stack up to what we were used to. I don't think we had anyone else on the list, that was not playing firsts, who could have filled Kirks role this year and done a better job. IMO a champion of the club who picked a champion time to retire.

Not many players would escape the wrath of the coaches with 3 standout games for the year.

To bring it back to the ol' sparring match; prior to being dropped, and really firing up the whole Davo vs. Roos media saga, Davo had at least 3 standout games playing in 12 of the 14 rounds through to the Adelaide game in 2006 (in a year when his premiership, and of course SF, credits should have been at their height)- 21 disposals/2 goals, 24 disposals/3 goals/6 tackles (DAVO with 6, that'd be like Kirky kicking a dozen goals!), 17 disposals/4 goals (the week before the Adelaide game!).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Kirk was still right up on the AFL's stats for the role he performed year after year. So he was among the better at his job across the whole competition. And he was regarded by the coaching staff as one of our Top 10 players. So not just a definite in our best 22 but one of the first on the whiteboard each week. He certainly picked exactly the right time to leave (though the early announcement was a surprise) but saying he should have left at the end of last year would have left the team very light on when injuries struck and we probably would have fnished further down the ladder.

I don't think the selection of Kirk was the reason why we lost the Dogs' final. If we had a full forward who could kick goals we would have played the following week. I love having Braddy in the team but he let us down a lot more in that game than Kirk did.

Kirk's and Roos' SCG farewell was definitely one of my highlights for the year - two champions of the Swans going out at the top of their game.

Unlike Davis, he didn't disappear for 50% of a game this year when not having a blinder, he was at stoppage after stoppage, chatting tackling and doing his bit.

That's a bit unfair, I think you'll find that for that 50% of game time Davo was absolutely doing just that- stopping at the boundary near a pretty girl, chatting about his tackle and chomping at the bit.

Or chomping more than a bit:

I think the list is a little better for 2010 but it'll depend on injuries. We did well to finish where we did last year but when you consider our injury list we did remarkably well IMO.

The 2010 list has great "potential". Horse can have no complaints re the list, he has plenty to work with.
