It's a pity actually (the wedding being same day), because as silly as it is, the Royal Wedding will dominate the hell out of all media that week, be hard for our first big Friday night game in years to get a look in or much media time beyond the norm.

You know it may be in the Swans favour - because you can guarantee that the Wedding will be televised on every channel going - Now if the AFL are smart they will advertise this game to death (and as long as channel 7 oblige) that the Sydney game will be the real alternative program to watch that night nation wide!!!(for those who dont want to watch the wedding) see my way of thinking??? - ok - tell her she's dreamin!
The Swans will be 4-0 and sitting atop the ladder. They would have beaten the Cats in their previous game (before the bye). Even though most of the talk will about how the Cats are finished there will be enough interest in game that Sydney will be ready to embrace the Friday game with gusto. The main talking point will be who will stop the combined scoring power of TDL, Brashshaw and Johnson."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Good omens here. The Swans actually have a very very good record when Royal Weddings take place close to game day:
July 1981- Prince Charles-Lady Diana Spencer. Swans beat Collingwood, (yes the Pies) 121-103
July 1986 - Prince Andrew- Sarah Ferguson. Swans thrashed Melbourne 189-65
June 1999- Prince Edward-Sophie Rhys-Jones. Swans beat Carlton at Princess Park 88-61
April 2005- Prince Charles-Camilla Parker-Bowles. Swans beat Brisbane at the Gabba 87-81, after being behind by 33 points at ? time and never actually being in front until after the final siren. This gave me my first laugh for the day. Good one, top40

Javol, just like most European Royalty. The Teutonic duchies and kingdoms provided many royals for other lines to marry into, but it gets a bit ridiculous nowadays. I mean, Charlie is half Greek (Prince Phillip's side) so I think at this point you just call him a pommie git. After all, their name is Windsor now, not Saxe-Coburg Gotha.10100111001 ;-)Comment

If the AFL pitch it right, we could gain a few new fans. Once the non-royal watchers realise the only place to escape the madness is at the SCG, or else locked in their own garage, they might just have to find an old red shirt and head out. And we all know, one good Swans game at the SCG and it's straight to the membership department!Superman still wears Brett Kirk PyjamasComment

An absolute flogging by the Bullies in the first week of finals in '97 was followed that night by Diana's funeral.
Pretty depressing day all round.
I was staying with a mate in Crown Towers watching the funeral, then went down to the Mahogany Room and lost my play lunch money as well.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment
