Catching a tram to the SCG

According to the following article, it may well become a reality.

Proposed light rail would link inner west with airport

I'd like to see that happen one day. Would be very nostalgic.

I thought it was a typo in the thread title when I first read it.

I miss having no need for a tram to the MCG when it was literally at the end of my street. It also made for some pretty damn impressive views from the road at night looking down from the top of the street with the lit up G in the foreground and the city behind it... Those were the days.

Great idea, and undoes the stupidity of scrapping the tramline from the city out to Malabar and La Perouse, not to mention Clovelly and Coogee. I used to catch it to school and, especially given the separate right of way along Anzac Parade, could never understand why they put buses in instead.

Not to get all political or anything, but a change of government next year in NSW might give this a chance of happening. The current mob would find a way to stuff it up for sure.

Hopefully, a change of government would invest in the north/west railway looooooooong before throwing money at something that would be rated a very low priority by most Sydneysiders.

At least we have a train to the airport, even if it costs you the same as a cab ride

                  Yeah
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I can't see that happening soon because they have built a very impressive bus lane now to Parramatta.

I hopped on the bus at Rouse Hill to go to Homebush for Ben Hur and I was very impressed. My Mum lives out that way.

The Sydney trams were scrapped by some pathetic individual in Government that hated trams. I love the tram system in Melbourne. I hope to catch a tram to the SCG one day in the next 5 years. Even if they call it "light rail" to make it sound modern.

Totally agree on the Melbourne tram system, it's brilliant and, from my experience anyway, always seems to cope with road closures and special events unlike ANY form of public transport in Sydney, and I'm not saying the tram idea in Sydney is a bad one - but the NUMBER ONE priority in public transport in Sydney has to be the northwest rail line.
We are the only part of Sydney that has no train coverage and it's a bloody disgrace and buses and those shocking, traffic clogging bus lanes are not the answer and just don't cut the mustard. No offence but the odd "special event" bus trip does not give you a true picture of just how pathetic our public transport system is out this way!

I'll now hop off my soap box and return to normal transmittion, sorry for the rant but this is a subject I'm very passionate about!

No trains on the northern beaches either.

I've rather taken to the Red Bus system. I am now able to get to places I have struggled with previously. And I love the fact there is no timetable. You just know one is going to turn up in about 15 minutes. One of these routes goes from drummoyne to coogee via moore park, which may be of use to some of us. Its a bit of a hike back to the SCG, but then again that may be fine for the younguns. At least they painted it the right colour!

Nor in the Eastern Suburbs much beyond Edgecliff and Bondi Junction. Or the eastern part of the Lower North Shore (ie east of North Sydney / St Leonards).

I used to live at Baulkham Hills about 20 years ago and my Mum lives at Schofields so I haven't experienced traffic out that way for a long time. Schofields is getting a new train station about 600 metres from the old one and in the middle of no where. Effectively stops any elderly that can walk to the train now. Work that out.

I imagined the special bus lanes were OK at least to Parramatta. It sounds like a difficult situation.
