    Who will play CHF??

CHF is a key position that we currently do not have a specialist for.The options for CHF (in order of stupitity..last one the dumbest) are

1.Goodes: prodigous talent but not a natural CHF.Plays well as a follower all over the ground, better in the centre square bursting forward

2.LJ and/or Reid: great potential but too raw to be thrown to the wolves in such a tough position. Maybe in a year or two but maybe not this year.Definately worth grooming though.

3.Reg: Started as a forward. Now with LRT and CB back could he move to CHF and perform? This experiment might be worth a try for a quarter and see how it goes. Can always move him to CHB if needed there.

4.Mike Pyke (The "big Body" lovers). He can mark,he can handball,he can kick and has a huge body.Playfair got games last year on this basis, why not Mike now we have two ruckmen back?

5.White: He would need to step up but has it all there too.He has been tried and seems to fit better into the forward pocket pack buster style who creates openings.

6.Nobody: Play the CHF next to the square and leave a paddock for Bradshaw to run into.Work on Bradshaw for the Coleman, feeding him from the centre.

7.Seaby: Same point as 4. But use Mike as the second ruckman.

We really need a specialist CHF to help win a Premiership and at this stage are there any other options to those listed above?

LJ, there were some monstrous wraps on him when we drafted him, and in 2009 when he stayed home, but it seems the lovefest is over now. At times he's looked really good in the ressies, but then he fades away.

Poor Reid spent so much time in the ruck for the ressies last year, he must have thought all his Chjrissies had come at once being aloud to pplay forward with such effect in the firsts. Both are interesting prospects.

I think Pyke would be a better option than Reg. We need Reg down back - he killed it this year, why would you move him now?

Jetstar did quite well after missing his first 19 shots. I wouldn't have picked him to play a KP forward though.

CHF is an important position on the larger grounds, such as the MCG and some of the other away grounds, such as Shell Stadium, AAMI stadium and Subi. Not as important at the SCG and Etihad.

Due to the smaller dimensions of the SCG your full foward and forward pockets can lead up to CHF and still be within kicking distance. It is also not as important if your running defenders and running mids choose to go longer to full forward or to the flanks, instead of short to CHF. On the SCG use Goodes as a mid fielder. We have a myriad of options who could play CHF on the SCG.

On the larger grounds, I would prefer to use Goodes at CHF so that he has room to move and float between the middle of the ground and deep forward.

With Goodes used as a floating CHF, one of Reid, Johnston and White will need to be used as the third tall marking option (up the ground), along with Bradshaw closer to goal.

          My opinion only.

Reid is my choice at CHF. He has shown enough IMO.

I am absolutely convinced that playing goodes in the midfield robs us of our best ball-winner and gets us, at best, a mercurial hff. He does not beat genuine kp defenders sufficiently regularly to justify losing him from where he plays best and where he is virtually impossible to match up on being too tall for most on-ball taggers and too fast/mobile for most kpp thrown up the ground.

Whilst he is an exciting project, is 1 game playing as a flank with essentially nobody defending him truly showing enough to be given the nod for CHF?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Yep but it was very classy Stella. Gotta give him a chance soon, we don't want his brothers mob getting in his ear.

Agree about giving him a go but not CHF yet. Then again I would have had at least 4-5 senior games in him last year if I was coaching the Swans. Just on the flank for another year yet..don't overcook the lad who will be so good for us in years to come.I reckon Johnston and him could have a friendly rivalry for CHF in 2012?

They will probably play Goodes there anyway....

With the return of Seaby this year, along with Mumford of course, if both stay fit, Pyke will not get a game, let alone hold down CHF.

Bradshaw, unfortunately, won't play a full season. If none of the younger forwards, White and Johnston in particular, don't come along quickly then I imagine Seaby will be required to play more of a forward role. This will, depending on how the bench situation plays out, give Pike a few opportunities.
As far as the smaller bench goes let's hope the old adage of tall footballers don't shrink as the game goes on still has a place, as we have some good big bodies. Hopefully, as the games head into the final quarter the Maxwell types will struggle to make it to every contest and a Seaby or Pyke could take down a good number of marks in the forward half.
