So I gather no one thinks we should move Reg to the forwards? I know he had a stellar season but his form dropped a little towards the end. Maybe a fresh role would revitalise him. If you have the skills and fitness to hold down some of the games big name forwards I argue that you can also play CHF. Reg has got good hands and from memory a very straight kick when shooting for goal.He can be replaced in the backlines with LRT and we have numerous flankers. Playing him CHF releases Goodes for a damaging on ball role and would make opposition coaches have a few match up problems. There is a lot of upside to this idea.

Sorry Disagree, he's become a fantastic back and we have plethora of slightly/untried young forward talent. His form trailed off due to being exhausted from what I read. He spent all last year assisting to cover for LRT and Bolts. He will be back fitter and more experienced this year, and with a bit of luck some extra mature big bodied support.

No way. He was prettty ok as a forward, but came into his own reflective self down back. Its his comfy position, why change. Nice if he could be allocated forward and back in dreamteam though.

Flank? Nobody on him? He was playing pretty much pure CHF, and had Merrett on him.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I'll be honest, I wasn't at the Gabba and it's pretty hard to tell if someone is playing CHF or a roaming flank from watching it on the tele. My impression was very much that he was playing off a flank and was given zero respect by Brisbane as far as tight marking- my memory is that he took a number of wide open, uncontested marks that didn't exactly appear to be on the end of a hard lead.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Give Reg a go. May be a revelation CHF now given his experience and confidence. Let the other talls develop as KP in backline as he has had to.

Goodes for sure will remain the 70% of the game VHF

Reidy will no doubt get minutes up front in the HFF CHF role

big call with only 1 game in Seniors but Sam will be a difficult fella to match up on and looked like it was all pretty easy for him..........Rohan i hoped was more 190cm then he is 185cm or so but I think he will flank it

Whilst I appreciate it's a typo, I quite like the term Virtually Half Forward as the position for the guy named at CHF for SCG games.

The Swans site has him listed as 188cm. And IIRC there was talk last year about how he was still growing.

yeah........i was getting at that most who have seen Rohan at training seem to think he is closer to 185cm then a true 188cm or what ever Rohan was listed at............If he ends up 190cm in the end he we will be a nightmare to mark in the HFF line !

I was at the Gabba and I think the truth lies somewhere in between. He played classic leading forward. You would imagine the instructions were to keep it simple. Merrett was carrying an injury and gave young Sammy waaaayyyy to much room and not a lot of respect as Stella said.
He's an impressive kid. Took his chances and didn't waste his opportunity.

Whilst most of the suggestions in the OP have merit, I'm most intrigued with Pyke at CHF. I think he has the pace and body to cause real problems. His skills have improved significantly and I'm looking forward to what he brings after a full off season.

I'm a Reid fan too, so the suggestion for him warrants a good look as well. I think a few consistent wins on his opponent before the move to CHF will do him wonders.

I agree about Mike Pyke. My doubts are whether his development curve can continue to rise? CHF is also the hardest position to play on the field. However, with the exception of Richmond, teams with winning CHF's rarely lose. I think CHF to be beyond Mike right now but could he improve enough to handle it? I know injuries will come and change everything but I was wondering where you could fit Mike into the starting 22.CHF would have been laughable last year but its not so silly this year.Plenty of supporters thought he would not play in the Seniors at all and look what he has achieved. If he came good and learnt how to play the position,as you say he has a big body and could cause some problems for oppositions. He is fast enough to stop backmen running off him.
The best thing I like about using someone else at CHF is that it frees up Goodes.Goodes on the ball is a really difficult match up.He will out run a taller spoiling backman and out mark a shorter one. Can't help being positive about this year though with youngsters coming on and good players not making the best 22.

With C Bolts (foot problems) Mummy, Tiger and LRT (Surgery) and Seaby (Only just returning from ankle problems) all doubtful for round 1 there will be plenty of room for the youngsters to establish themselves.

I'm not a fan of Goodes at CHF but him floating into the fwd line with an opposition midfielder in tow is another matter. Also, given Goodes age, we probably need to work on finding a younger CHF as well.

Reid and Johnston look natural key forwards but are they ready?

Pyke, as witnessed during 2010, takes a strong grab and at his height, strength and pace would be a difficult match up. Only question is whether he has the game smarts to play the most demanding CHF position. Could be worth a try pre season just to see if there is any potential for it to work.

I'm also wondering if we are flush with running half backs whether Rohan should be tried forward more permanently. Again a difficult match up and really capable of doing damaging things.
