Reward for winning round 1 - probable trip to WA

So if Sydney win on Sat night they could possibly travel to West Coast - gee why would you want to win? Also how come it is already stated that Collingwood get the wildcard when there are 3 more games to be decided - are the percentages what decides who plays against the wildcards as well? Dumb waste of time competition.

Actually it's unclear whether the winner will go to Perth or Melbourne. The conspiracy theorist in me guesses that the AFL is waiting for the results of the upcoming round so that they can avoid pitting Geelong against Gold Coast to ensure the first time Ablett plays against his old team will be in the regular season.

      Mmmmm.
      Dumb waste of time competition.
Pretty much summed it up in five words my friend.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

If were playing practice matches, there would be a good chance we would go to Perth anyway. It is a national competition and teams have to travel. No biggie!

Let's just let Eddie's boys have the cup now and get over it.

What a comprehensive re-write of 4 team names between the 2 paragraphs. Perhaps the AFL have so many staff they are each allocated only one paragraph. But surely "West Coast" should be in para 1, with the "Eagles" moved to para 2.

It will be good when the real sport begins!

"The second 'lucky loser' will play on Saturday 26 February, either at Etihad Stadium against Sunday's Geelong/Western Bulldogs/North Melbourne group winner or in Perth against the Eagles.

And on Sunday 27 February, the winner of this Saturday's Sydney Swans/Greater Western Sydney/Gold Coast pool will take on either the Cats/Bulldogs/Kangaroos or West Coast."

All teams except Collingwood that is.

I hope the swans win and come down to Melbourne...or Geelong.

I wouldnt mind seeing the boys have a hitout in the flesh before the regular season starts.

I agree with that - plus we need as much experience as possible playing on grounds such as Subi, Footy Park, Shell Stadium and even the MCG/Etihad. We aint Collingwood, so we need to deal with the fact that we have to travel to play a number of games this year.

The young boys in the team need to get used to travel, getting in and out of Hotels at different times and playing at times the "body clock" is not used to. Its all part of the preparation necessary to be a professional sportsman. If you cannot win "on the road" then a final 4 spot will not come your way. I would welcome the opportunity to have them experience this before the Home and Away series starts and see who adjusts to playing at Subiaco when your body tells you its 10pm and you have had 4 hours on a plane!

That draw is a dog's breakfast. I don't mind the team going to Perth, but you should know where you're going if you win your pool. I tend to agree that it's about keeping Geelong and GC apart.

Can guarentee the AFL won't send Collingwood out of the state (probably a good things there fans aren't let loose), even for the drab cup.

We shouldn't forget that the AFL sent Colingwood to Dubai for the NAB Cup only 3 years ago...
