    Goodes in top form

Finally a story even if it is only about 2 paragraphs.

Now that Goodes is reaching retirement age but still playing so well, I think we should trade him to GWS for their first 5 draft picks. They might be silly enouigh

Not good news about Bird and I would think with his history, we may have lost him for a while.

Moore hopefully will be OK. Great for Sumner. Outstanding pre-season and welcome back Mr Smiff.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

I'd like to see him play well consistently before I pull on the dancing shoes.....

Looks like we have found a CHF - Goodes has been outstanding in the preseason.

Also great to see Everitt fitting in beautifully down back and Sumner is now a lock for R1.

Having only seen the first two games he did some good things and looks a likely type but I don't believe he walks straight into the team, has he performed that much better in the last 2 matches? If he has that's awesome.

Sumner has two qualities that we definately need in backline kick-in situations. He has pace and can weave through traffic. This is what we need to break the choke hold teams like Collingwood put on their opposition at kick ins.An ideal play would be a quick kick in to a defender out wide who handballs back to the centre to Sumner running up the centre who then delivers a perfect pass to a midfielder.

I'm more worried about if there is a place in the team for him, is there room for two small defenders in Smith and Sumner without exposing us due to a lack of height. Maybe with Sumner in defence Smith will move into the midfield. Or does he play up the ground instead, or as a loose defender?

I'd like to see Smiffy get a run in the Mid. The guys all class.

Reckon Smith will be our first choice midfield stopper, did some great jobs last year (which freed up K Jack) and I believe he has been a midfield ball magnet in the ressies?

Sumner will be the dashing back pocket, his ability in traffic is special, just needs to show he can stop the dangerous opposition small forwards.

Just had a good look at yesterday's result, 24 scoring shots to 13 is impressive and the Saints were only missing Schneider from their probable best line up. I don't rate the other three missing, Dawson is a nobody, Gardiner is a has been and Kositschke .... well he is the most over rated player in the AFL.

Nice work Swans, and a lot of up side to come hopefully.

I am thinking Sumner will make round one. All indicators from the club are that he will, but certainly it depends on tbe availability of the seemingly endless list of defenders on the injury list.

Hey, you can see that from Thailand but I bet you they'll have trouble seeing the same thing here. We should run a season kick-in clanger tally. Couldn't be that hard to set up. Bit like the Luffy award of the week but add clanger tally. It would make interesting reading at year's end.

... thanks for the report, but more importantly, how did the kids go on the hill, and how the hell did you manage to do that with them there!???

Okay, it has taken a little time to get this posted. After the game I started to write up my thoughts only to get about half way through and accidently hit the "back" button and lose everything I had typed, so I cracked the @@@@s and did something else. Then yesterday I Nippers in the morning and spent all afternoon mowing lawns.
Now I am at work and can get on with the important things.
For me - the BOG had to be Jetta. He constantly found space on the wings and utilised it well either with great delivery to CHF or beyond.
Goodes was another who had a great game. He appears to have settled into the CHF role and provided a great target up front.
White, although he didn't have a blinder did what I imagine the coaches asked of him, to crash the pack and create a contest. The problem, from what I could see on our side of the ground, was our crumbers did always get to the fall of the ball, there was always one extra saint to get in the way. Having said that Jesse took a lovely speccy in the third quarter(?) that got the crowd cheering.
Smith was also a stand out for me. Not that he did anything flashy to stand out, he just didn't give his opposition anything and was also able to be an offensive threat when in position to do so.
Bevo - based on this game I would have him in the starting team. From my vantage point he didn't have any clangers and was instrumental in stopping some of the Saints fast rebounds. One play stands out, because it was right in front of us, was Bevo sprinting across to spoil Reiwoldt who had slipped behind Reg and was about to mark about 60 out. The flying fist of Bevo send the ball flying into the crowd.
Mummy was the dominated ruckman and Seaby provided a target up forward but the fwd entries were mainly target at Goodes (my Dad commented that they seemed too Goodes-centric)
Rohan was given a defensive role a stuck to it. Even when we were in possession he stayed with his man (I am not sure who it was). I would have liked to see him tearing up the wing but Jets was doing enough of that already.
I will try and post more as I remember it.

Thanks, RS. You gave a better report than any I found in the papers here in Melb. How to we fit Bevo in defence along with all the others, though?
