Shattering is I think the best word to use here.

What a sad way to end a wonderful career. A great backman, a great captain and a great Swan.

Just watched the video as well. He's all class. Hopes we don't forget about him too quickly... No chance, Craig!

Sad day for a true champion of the club.

This leaves us with just remaining 2005 Premiership players.

One of my favourite players, and I honestly can see he is one of the best and most versatile defenders I have ever seen. From a fringe player at Brisbane to a 199 gamer, a premiership player, an All-Australian and a club captain; he should be very proud.

Craig shall always be remembered for selflessly missing an easy shot on goal from point blank range in the 2005 SF so that Davo could have his moment in the sun.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Terrible news.... absolutely shattered for a wonderful player and a fantastic ambassador for our club. A classy defender, vastly underrated by many in the league but not by his fans. A sad day indeed- I was desperately hoping he could come back and not only get to 200 games but be a big part in our next tilt for a flag. Cheer Cheer to a fantastic Swan!

Footy must go on however, and even without Craig we have a lot to look forward to! Its time for Grundy to build on a fantastic 2010 and become our premier defender (if he is not already!).

Very sad, but not unexpected, news. A genuine example of the club's "no d*ckheads policy". He took me on a dressing room tour at last year's fan day and was as charming, well-spoken and decent as you could hope for. He also patiently waited and then helped my 4yo daughter overcome shyness and agree to pose for a photo on the SCG with him. He told her how much it would mean to him if she'd pose for a photo with him and won her over.

Thanks for all the memories Craig and for being such a hard, determined, committed player on the field and a wonderful ambassador for the club off it.

9 months of rehab on his Achilles... Then for this to happen before making it past 199 games! So so cruel... he will be greatly missed.

An obvious class act, both on and off the field.

To be left stranded on 199 games just seems so unfair.

Just like Kirky, I doubt there would be one supporter out there, regardless of allegiances, who would not feel disappointed it ended this way.

I hope he stays around the traps, can only be a good thing for the club.

This is all so very sad and actually unexpected when considering that his recovery appeared to be going well.

A remarkable player who punched well above his weight. Tenacious and smart. Will be greatly missed.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Haven't been this sad about a retirement since Paul Kelly. Tough and reliable, my favourite type of player.

                                Will be missed.
