Jenny, I/we had this discussion with Larissa last year, but at the time, the season was well underway and it was a bit hard for Larissa to actually address it as processes had been put in place.
It is to do with the starting time of the ressies in relation to the gate opening times.
I note on the Transport infoline, for the Essendon game in 2 weeks, the gates open at 10:45 and the ressies start at 10:50. This quite obviously makes it difficult to get into the ground and in your seat before the game starts, especially at the SCG for those who sit almost anywhere, except for maybe Brewongle Concourse. If you have a premium seat at ANZ, forget about reaching those levels until the game is underway. This has been the case for some years now and a constant source of annoyance for many, but until Larissa came onboard, there wasn't much anybody could do.
Now guys like Ugg who tweets just about every play made in the ressies, myself who keeps all the kicks/handball stats in conjunction with my nephew and tweets them during the breaks, plus a few other tweeters I feel provide a pretty good service to RWO'ers or anybody else who is quite welcome to add themselves to the followers list. I know the Melb. guys especially hang on Twitter during the ressie games in Sydney. There is always a ressies report, an opinion piece or a lively discussion thread and wrapup from posters such as Liz, Primmy, ORB and others who I'm sure would also appreciate being able to physically reach their seat before the game starts.
Bottom line ..... can we get the gates opened a mere 5 minutes earlier????
It is not a case of extra wages etc. I can absolutely guarantee you that the gates are manned on the turnstiles by a full compliment of ground and gate staff at least 10 minutes before the gates open, just waiting for the OK thru the ground 2-way radio system to open for business.
5 minutes may not seem like much, but it will make a world of difference to ugg and myself that we can get to our seats and have a minute or two to see who is playing, who is out, before starting the tweetathon.
If gate opening times are not negotiable, perhaps give thought to delaying the start of the ressies and reducing some of the pre-game fluff by again, a mere 5 minutes.
Cheers
