I was worried when Bruce said neither side had won in R1 since '05. Jinxed us!

Not the worst performance I've seen, but so many frustrating skill and thought errors (Bevan at least countered that horrible tackle with a great goalkeeper save). The choice of substitute also baffles me.

I think we have a lot of potential this year, but the early weeks without Malceski and Kennelly will be trying.

I doubt any of their fans would have been satisfied with that result though, especially with such abysmal kicking. They didn't take long to improve on that.

That's great but what's it got to do with the Swans in season 2011?

Um I think the Magpies won last years premiership after drawing with the Dees.... Therefore a draw vs Melbourne does not in itself preclude a premiership....

Over the last year Melbourne have been very competitive at times (as we've found out a couple of times lately) but they've struggled for consistency. They'll be a stronger team again this year and I agree with the people on this site who have given them a few kudos for their performance yesterday instead of moaning about what could have been. It was a great match with both sides moving the ball at speed, and although there was a bit of rust about both teams, I am optimistic that we will prove to be a very tough team to beat again this year, especially at home. We'll be better for that hit-out yesterday....

Nobody said it did, the original comment was that nobody should be satisfied with that result (especially after holding such a lead), and we shouldn't.

[QUOTE=Doctor;522075]- Kicking accuracy from set shots is all that's keeping Goodesy from becoming an elite centre half-forward

This is a bit like saying not being able to serve is the only thing that stops him being a good tennis player. Kicking goals from set shots is a forward's job.Should be bread and butter,Barry Hall like. I thought Goodes played well until heavily tagged but didn't notice him in the dying minutes when it needed a 3rd man above the ruck to palm it wide or even rush a point.
IMO he should have had a run in the centre after he was effectively taken out of the game by the tagger.

Our first half was very good. We got plenty of ball and our forward line was functioning really well. Goodes outstanding.
Dees did well to hold Jack, Kennedy and Hannebery who all struggled to impose themselves on the game.
Mumford look tired and if clearances are so important I think we should play two ruckman and one of those is not Jessie White.
Bevo had his usual - did some great things did some crap things. Unfortunately the crap things all seem to happen in our D50.
Ted is playing with real confidence and was good in defence. Reg wasn't his usual self.
Mattner was superb and saved our bacon several times.
Thought generally everyone on both sides (except for the Jettas) looked sluggish - was quite warm so maybe that influenced the game.
                    Did Shaw injure knee/leg?
Liked our forward line with Reid in it but he can't carry FF so not sure what we are going to do there.
I second that - the MCG is just THE BEST!!! although I was there for the dullest game in hostory - ie on Friday night (I had made it back over the NSW Border by the time our boys were on the field) yes it was a rotten game - but the last 10 minutes made the trip all worthwhile.
I thought our game was alot better - and as it was delayed into Albury I listend to the 3AW feed - whilst we looked good early - but full marks to The Dees they applied the pressure. But its only round 1 - and we still got 2 points - those two points may come in very handy around September!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

So the key to tripping people so you don't get suspended is to use your feet instead of your hands. Someone better get Fletcher on the phone.
How was McDonalds trip on McVeigh not suspension worthy? Even if he didn't miss a game there should have been some action taken. He clearly stopped McVeigh from attempting a shot on goal, most likely resulting in some type of score... in a drawn game. Absolutely ridiculous decision.

It was a disgraceful decision not to pay a free to McVeigh - he was tripped by his opponent - even if accidental its a free.

Apparently if you stick your leg out while in the air then its not a deliberate act !!

The holding was very noticeable all day of Garland on Goodes. However I think Grundy got away with a bit of holding at times, so I think it sort of evened out overall.
