Ted's been offered one week for his hit! Even with his clean record and discount for early plea he won't get below the 100 points that will see him escape suspension.Comment

Seaby and rush LRT back a week earlier than planned?
Poor Ted, seems a bit harsh consideringChillin' with the strange QuarksComment

Replays at the time looked like no head high contact?! He never intended it either, what was the charge? Swans should try to have it thrown out all together.Comment

Correct me if I'm not recalling it correctly, but I'm sure Gilbee didn't get a free kick from the incident, which seems to suggest the umpires thought there was no head high contact.Comment

Wow, that really seems very harsh on Ted- I'm not sure what else he could have done apart from bracing for the impact that would not have left him completely open to wear a hit himself.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

The musings of the MRP are bewildering at times. It surely can't have been assessed as anything other than negligent, given any contact to the chin seemed incidental (if not inconclusive). So for him to get a week, it must have been assessed as at least medium impact. Wasn't even really a bump either - more of a collision. Wonder if the club will bother contesting it.Comment

I'm still waiting for afl.com.au to post the full MRP report, but from what I gather from Twitter, Ted got the five year good record discount and even combining that discount with 25% early plea discount he wasn't able to go below 100 points. They must have smacked him with a pretty high grading.Comment

Okay we have the report
Early plea is another 25% discount = 125.56 pointsSwans defender Ted Richards was also charged with rough conduct in a second-quarter incident with Bulldog Lindsay Gilbee.
Richards' contact with Gilbee was assessed as negligent, medium impact and high contact, earning him 225 demerit points and a two-match suspension. Richards' five-year good record brought his penalty down to 168.75 points and a one-game ban.
I think the Swans can contest the charge and if it fails Ted still gets the five-year good record discount, and so wouldn't risk another match (and an important one too against the Buddy/Roughy combo) if the challenge failed.
I also think that if the Swans can downgrade the impact charge they might be able to get below the 100 points.Comment
