I wonder if there would have been so much who-har about this incident if Billy Bloggs was the offending party and not Paul Roos?

It's not exactly like junior clubs in Sydney have extensive medical and runner teams with stretchers at the ready.

It's a suburban kid's game, someone goes down, it's pretty understandable someone might act on their concern for them. Hell it could be anything from a king-hit to an epileptic fit. It's probably a rules violation, but he'll probably get a reprimand and that'll be that. I'm sure this happens semi-regularly with people less high profile than Roosy.

well, obviously Roos did the wrong thing, but hopefully his breach of the rules will lead to an increased awareness of the problems of violence in junior footy, if nothing else. There's no need to overreact to what basically amounted to a minor violation.

If the boy was king hit as stated and the Newtown club does not deal with it in an appropriate manner that is a far bigger offence than anything Roosy may have done. The onus is on Newtown now.

If he ran on to check on the welfare of what may have been a seriously injured player, I have no problem with it. If his agenda was anything else, or he did anything else while he was out there, then obviously it becomes a little more problematic. There are pretty clear rules about this stuff in all codes of football.

                The outcome:

Roos avoids suspension for junior incident
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Roos is vey repected in the footy world as evidenced by his insight and comments from the "On the couch" program. I doubt very much that this will blow over with minimal impact on his reputation. He will still be revered as the couch who broke the premiership drought for the Sydney Swans/South Melbourne. Who can forget "here it is!"

                      Peter Fitzsimons' take:
                      RULES ARE ROOS
The Paul Roos thing? All the commentary this week that Roos should not be penalised for having entered the field of play to defend one of his under-16 players because he is such a good man, a great ambassador for the game and he was only seeking to prevent violence seems to miss the point to me. That is that the rule against coaches entering the field of play is every bit as sacrosanct as the one that says the person of the referee is untouchable. Each game has to have very clear boundaries or it really does risk descending into chaos. So of course it is understandable why Roos did what he did. But it is no less understandable that AFL NSW-ACT had to act regardless.

''We need to all take that very seriously, as coaches and parents,'' he said. ''The game needs to be as safe as it can and certainly that will be one of my goals. I don't want to be put in a position where I need to go out on the field.''
Whilst it might just be one of many comments Paul made, that doesn't exactly read as "mea culpa".
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

One part is speculation, one part is fact. I don't see how this is on Newtown and not on UNSW/ES. Paul calling out "who did it?" suggests he didn't see the incident that lead to the kid going down.
