There are plenty of players that LRT is better than. Alex Johnson for one. I love the look of AJ, but LRT is better.

The other option is LRT at FF. Hey, if Kepler Bradley can make it as a FF, LRT surely can!
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

      No, he can't.

A tough call is going to have to made between LRT, Ted, AJ and Grundy.

For mine I think AJ is better below his knees than the other 3 and better suited as the 3rd tall defender who can play on medium players....and more upside for the future.

IMO only 2 of Grundy, LRT and Richards (in that order) must be made, and I preface this by saying Richards is one of my favourite Swans.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

And then between AJ and Heath.

And...to quote myself again....The backline will be made up of:

          Smith XXXXX Mattner
          Malcheski XXXXX Kennelly

          Stretching the 3rd inclusion.

One of his last games was against Adelaide and Nigel Smart was his opponent. He kicked three in the first half on him, doing exactly what Nigel didn't like and all I can think was that was the intel working at it's best.

Anyway, the reason why I raised it was a couple of times Goodes (and others) went to the back of Scott Thomson when he had the ball during the game, leading me to comment to a friend at the game that it would have been instruction more than natural instinct.

All fair enough, but in that particular instance. If goodes had one side covered, why didn't Hanners go the other way, and corner him?? Instead of both to the same side.
And when the intel isn't working as planned, surely you have a plan B.

If Brisbane play Brown at CHF and Clarke/Leuenberger at FF then LRT better be playing as a key position back or we are in BIG trouble. Mal Smithy or Marty can play on the wing and Teddy can play the 3rd tall defender role he is soooooo good at.

We may need all of them when we next play West Coast.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Please no. LRT is a dead set defender IMO, send him back there and move someone else forward. Ted , although far more comfortable in defence these days, started his career as a forward and can play the position a hell of a lot better than LRT.
Both are ordinary shots at goal, but at least Ted knows how to lead, where to go etc, as a forward. LRT appears reactionary...like a defender.
Obviously it would be better to have both in defence, but it seems at present, unless they bring White back in, one of Grundy, Ted or LRT needs to play forward if we are going to fit them all in the team
. I'd go for Ted or Grundy over LRT.

I haven't read through the 262 posts, so my apologies if this has already been mentioned.

Two things that irked me on the weekend.

The first was McVeigh's lack of desperation, at times. For an endurance athlete, I expect more. I noticed on no less the two occasions he stopped chasing a North opponent, only to see a North player fumble the ball a litte further up the ground. As McVeight stopped chasing, the North player had the time to compose himself and dispose of the ball under less pressure.

The second was Goodes marking. Why, for the life of me, he tries to tap the ball to himself after taking a mark. He did it a few times. On one occasion, he had taken the mark, then tapped it up to himself, fumbled it, then got the play on call.

Maybe I'm going made and the above things are just figments of my imagination?

My main irk is that it seems to often we are watching the ball at the clearance. Losing the hitouts doesn't help I guess. I've long been a fan of being proactive rather than reactive and the facts are a quality team will not be wasteful with disposal and goal kicking like North were. And the Hawks showed that the previous week (even with poor goal kicking).

The sooner KJ gets back the better because apart from Joey no one is really going in and getting clean ball from the clearance. Defense is great but I would rather the ball be in our hands than be in the oppositions. To me we have a very very defensive midfield without KJ.

We lacked a lot of run. I was watching a few of the kick ins, you know the one, and not a player was moving with any intesity.
They seemed to be waiting to see where the ball would be kicked.
Many times it was predictably kicked to Goodes, who was usually up against 2 opponents.

and then the one time we had a man in acres of space grundy kicked it to himself, missed, dropped the ball bobbled it a few times and finally got a handpass away under pressure and the ball went out the other side. I am sure I wasnt the only person groaning at that moment...

Not sure if this has been brought up anywhere else on here but I just watched the big Mummy on the Bigpond Weekend Wrap-up - http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL/?ref=Net-Head-TV-Sport-AFL - first vid on the second page.

He is a classic the big Man. Well natured. Probably not the best conversationalist Media wise but we love him! Sounds like he's out this week and the week after may be touch and go.

When AJ was recruited it was not clear if he was recruited as a forward or back, having played both roles successfully at U18 level.

If somebody needs to be squeezed out of the backline to go forward, AJ would be a better option than Ted, LRT or Grundy imo.

                                Very good point BBB.

On the talk about Seaby ealrier on in the thread, i was sitting literally right next our bench on Saturday, could see all the players very clearly when they came off....let me tell you, there were a couple of occasions when Seaby came off and he was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y spent. I could have sworn he was ready to keel over a couple of times he was that stuffed.
