Bird on song

He's had that his whole career, with the amount of professionalism in the game nowadays I'd be very suprised if teams weren't already aware of it. Baulks/sidesteps executed well (and he does do it well) get a reflex action, it's very difficult to train it into people's heads to avoid.Comment

Can you imagine the mulling over that will cause for scouts? They'll make a note of "LRT is full of tricks, has the ball on a string- watch for him to be creative!" then have to contemplate for a while just whether they actually submit that for analysis with his next likely opponent.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Robert Harvey did well out of his his baulk over 350 games. Was effective in his last game as his first. Birdy's baulk is BETTER than Harvey's. The people who questioned the quality of Bird are not that cluey to be honest. I said it a while back. Bird is the most pure footballer on our list and will achieve great things for the Swans over the next decade.Comment

Bird has always impressed me and the admiration is growing.
He is an excellent reader of the game (as I also think TDL, Hannebery, Smith, AJ and the two ex-Hawthorn boys are).
Further improvement will give us a very good team and add to the brilliance of the longer-term players like Jack, Goodes, Bolton, O'Keefe, Kennelly (et al, backline) and LRT.
Good signs indeed!Comment

If you are after big calls, I'd say that we can finish Top 4 if Bird stays fit, TDL keeps settling in and Jack comes back. Mummy back will be the cream on top. If Reid starts kicking true to match his great marking anything is possible.Comment

My old man told me about this thread and I am just bringing it back to the top and posting my two bob because I can. Bird is not in Harvey's league and never will be. You don't always judge a player by their achievements but the guy was a consecutive Brownlow Medalist and won the E.J.Whitten Medal 3 times. His hips were and still are the best in the game and to say Bird can baulk like him is almost discriminating against the legend. Bird will come of age, but he needs a turn of speed bcause he so often gets caught out because of how slow he is.Comment

Bump.
Interesting comment from Ben McGlynn:
Which of your teammates most impressed you?
Craig Bird is someone that doesn?t get as much recognition as he should. He had a good year and he was tagging a bit early on too. He and Rhyce Shaw were shutting a lot of blokes down early in the year. Sam Reid is another one that impressed me and I expect to see more exciting things from him.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team.
