    McVeigh

Got smashed again today, just a shadow of his former self. Is he just too old, playing injured or is the weight of the captaincy too much for him. Maybe he should stand down.

      What crap.

He is doing a job. The real problem is at the selection and match committee level. We are slow and often look it when teams spread quickly against us. Our style remains to force a contest and when we don't manage that we look a really poor side.

Mcveigh is one of any number of swans players who look best when the ball is inside.

Thre are other areas that need looking at before we get to who is wearing the armband.

Sucking hard right now to have a captain doing nothing inspirational on the field. He needs to do some serious soul searching, and if he doesn't realize that I hope that someone points it out to him. Talk is cheap.

Its not panic stations but now is the time for him to step up in the back half of the year.

The blokes problem is his disposal. He doesn't seem to be a thinking player or his skills are just poor. He kicks across the ground and doesn't try for any penetration in his kicking. He toe pokes the footy most of the time. He seems to get his hands on the ball enough.

          Examples today:

Holds on to the footy for an eternity and then does a very short kick and often the ball drops short.
Kicked across the ground to I think McGlynn in the first quarter and the ball was I reckon 20 metres short.
Centre clearance in the 3rd quarter: he was on the defensive side and ball came out to him. At least 10 metres in the clear and should have gone forward with a long kick or at least looked for someone up forward. But no, he handballed 20 metres to Hanners who was behind his opponent but missed him by a fair way and Hanners was caught running on his wrong side to try to retrieve the footy. He got it but turned it over with poor disposal and a goal resulted.
I think he should be played up forward as an opportunist flanker.
He does work to help the backs and isn't afraid to drop into the hole, but then is often poor going the other way when he gets it.

You're confused, I think you're thinking of Mathews.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

not for lack of trying picture 6

                  Carlton too good Sydney

Kennedy, ROK, Macca, Kennedy are slow..........there is no hiding that.......very good players but slow...........it makes it very difficult to combat the fast break footy of a Carlton etc.........we need to persist with helping Rohan be able to play wing as well as HFF or HBF.

We lack classy outside midfielders. That was what McVeigh was drafted for.

He is slow, has poor disposal, goes missing, can't even tag and doesn't have that ability to lift the team like a captain should.

Well I did point it out to him today! I think the first time ever I genuinely gave a Swans player a close up spray today at the footy. Mcveigh chased one late in the 3rd/early in the 4th out of bounds right in front of me in which he should have done far better. I gave him a right royal serve, telling him that as a captain of the team he needed to stand up and be a Captain and to pull his finger out. No doubt he heard every word of it- hopefully it might get him thinking about his performances, which have been so increadibly disappointing overall this year.

I'm not proud to have done it, but he is a co-captain of the club and he has to do better. Goodes tried very hard today to dig us single handedly out of the massive hole we dug, but McVeigh while the effort was there, he had little if any influence on the game. If he wants to be a Captain, he has to lead from the front. He is never going to be a Kirk style captain in the trenches getting the hard ball all the time, but sometimes he needs to try much harder and when the heads go down and we start to struggle, he has to find a way to help stop the rot. He has ordinary disposal skills and too often is just completely anonymous in games. We all know, and I'm sure he knows as well that he can do MUCH MUCH better.

Been @@@@ since he was made captain. Good player. Can't lead by example. Time to hand in the captaincy.

He appears a very poor choice for captain and, on present form, should be playing in Canberra.

But we're stuck with him now.

The coaching staff have tied their own hands on this one.

They can't, and won't, drop him. And it's way too soon to replace him as captain.

@@@@@hose people in here slagging Macca , yes he was beaten today but maybe the people taking him to the cleaners should watch the game a little closer . Murphy had blokes blocking for him all day and working hard off the ball .. Where were our players when the Carlton guys were putting on the blocks ! As a unit today we played horribly our skills under pressure were horrible especially coming out of our back half and we have no answer to the press seemed like long up the line to Reid was our only plan . So before people in here single one player out maybe watch the replay of the game and have a look at our whole "team" effort
