I thought Parker's game on Saturday was deserving of a Rising Star nomination. Certainly his stats and impact on the game were more impressive than Batchelor's. Yes, the quality of the opposition was different but that shouldn't be a factor, in my opinion.
Parker Dudded?

I didn't see the game, but 13 games this season and then 22 disposals in the game he was nominated for isn't that bad.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time -

It's goes on weight of numbers it seems, and he had more runs on the board. I'd imagine Luke would have needed another goal and over 30 touches to have demanded it.Comment

I think the RS committee tries to avoid giving out nominations based on a single good game. Early in the season that can be hard to avoid, but by now the contenders generally have a stream of games to judge them by. I think it is a good approach because lots of players are capable of playing a one-off blinder but that is not the sign of a future star. Some element of consistency is.Comment

Following the win of Diamond Dan Hannebery in 2010 and based on the current progress of newcomer Slammin' Sammy Reid in 2011, the Sydney Swans are well positioned to be accrue two consecutive Rising Star Awards. Discuss.Comment

The board look at performance across all of their games. Just like Sam, it could be argued that he had had better games then the one he was nominated for. They don't exclusively nominate someone on the back of one game. Seeing as though Parks has had 5 games and come on as a sub in a few of them, I'm sure they ware waiting to see more from him before they grant him the honour of being a nominee. Plenty of time chaps. If he can produce that in his 5th game you would assume he will produce something of the like again which will probably get him a nomination.

Parker has played probably 1.25 really good games. Against GC and then his first quarter of footy (the 4th when he came on as a sub) against Port was outstanding. The rest of have been good or solid without being anything worthy of a nomination IMO. I mean, David Swallow had to wait months to get his nomination after he played weeks of great footy for a first year player. So I don't think we can be too upset about Luke missing out just yet. If he keeps playing this way for the rest of the year and doesn't get one, then that would be unfair certainly.
It's hard to compare AJ's output on average with Luke's as they play such different roles but I think AJ has played at least 2 games (Carlton and Richmond) where he was in our best 2 or 3 players and then a few other games (Brisbane, North, Bulldogs) where he was in our best 6 or 7. And as a 19 yo tall defender he has been remarkably consistent, poised and balanced. If the AFL wanted to remove the stigma of the Rising Star being a midfielder's medal, they would have nominated AJ a few rounds ago.Comment

That's exactly what I was going to say - super talent that kid. The trick for the RS winners is to keep in going in the next and subsequent years - looks like Hanners is stepping it up now after a bit of a slow start to the season.
AJ really is the pleasant surprise of 2011 for me though...Comment
