Too much "PC" in football today, we need the umpires treated equally ... the peanuts on AFL360 and the like are happy to crucify a player or coach, and ultimately end their career, if they think it's "newsworthy" ... how about just being honest about the performances of umpires?

Granted, they need to be shown some leniency, as they are an acknowledged lower form of life, but lets start by getting rid of the "Umpires Appreciation Round" ... it is simply a lie, unfair and misleading to the simpletons who are gullible enough to believe that is a sincere notion!

      A conspiracy theorist.
At the back of my mind I always thought, wrongly it appears, that us Swans supporters in complaining about umpiring, lacked objectivity and that we were a bunch of complainers.

I have mixed feeling now. At one level it's good to shown up as being wrong. At another level it disturbs meto find out that evidentiary we DO get a hard time from the umpires.

I don't think we get it too hard from the umps, we could have easily lost against Essendon and North Melbourne if a push in the back from Mattner or hold on Petrie by Grundy was called, which I thought were going to pulled up. But this thread isn't about if we get a good deal with the umps, it's about how much we hate Ray!

The author pointed out to me that we get (in his opinion) a lot of Frees when the game is not in the balance , to even things up. This appeared to be the case on Sunday.

Exactly right. And the frees are always when we are wedged up in the back pocket where they have little impact except on the stats sheet.

Not blowing my own trumpet but I made this EXACT point at 3Q time on Sunday. I said my friends beside me to watch in the last quarter how the free kick count will even up when the game is done and dusted! Sure enough...bingo. Happens alot!

                AFL Teams commenting on Chamberpot.

Wonder what odds Sam Newman giving it to Chamberpot this evening.

You guys reckon I can't spell, this is a sports journalist

A heavily penalised team is invariably one in the bottom quarter of teams ? where lack of discipline leads to transgerssions. But, that?s not the case with the Swans, who are a well-performed team over the last six years.

Stats of course aren't everything but it is interesting. Is there a breakdown of the frees? That would be interesting. Wonder how many are against our backline? We always seem to concede our frees close to goal.
Our blokes have got the worst of the 50/50's this year. Holding the ball/man, incorrect disposal (used to be called a throw but in the corporate world of AFL), ruck infringements & push in the back. It seems that we are a marked side in the backline for the push even if we don't we get it against us.

So does anyone know if we can put a bet on 'a free being awarded against Swans before the bounce'?

Sure, any one of the three field umpires for tomorrow will give you very generous odds ...then they'll ping Mummy for being Mummy 4 seonds in ...

What a silly question, it's called gambling for a reason. If they took bets on Sydney giving away the first free that would be giving away money for nothing

I found five videos on YouTube.com, and here are a couple of examples: ''Chamberlain screw job'', ''Chamberlain robs the Sydney Swans'', ''Ray Chamberlain rapes the Sydney Swans''. You get the picture, and that's without delving into the fan forums, where the vitriol was even more potent.
                                Alright, I made the papers.

Here's another thing. Chamberlain did not pay the 50-metre penalty against Tadhg Kennelly at the end, nor the free kick against Heath Grundy for a throw that led to Fremantle's sealing goal. It was another umpire.
I've always been aware of that, I just assumed Razor Ray led the charge.
