Agreel. We took Plugger, Barry, and Spida. All had issues in the past.
And not all our players have been angels in the past.

We'd get a ready made footballer for nothing in the draft. Assuming his fitness levels are still pretty good.

None of those players had issues around preparing themselves as committed athletes. They might have been boofhead bruisers and a bit aggro, or in the case of Everitt have an inability to embrace the clubs desire to change its' culture but they didn't turn up to training drunk and have multiple instances of being suspended by their clubs due to off field issues that impacted their preparation.

Past behaviour isn't always a good predictor of future behaviour. If the Swans wanted him then they believe that he has a good chance of turning things around. The coaching staff would certainly be doing their due diligence on him and as such would support their judgement in whichever way they go.

Fairpoint, but they all had disciplinary issues.

What is also perverse is that these bad and terrible footy players are assumed to be guilty by some just because they are footy players. They can't even go out for a beer now because if there is an incident the public assume the players are at fault.

It's also perverse but a fact of life unfortunately that in the court system the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty but is the exact opposite in the court of public opinion.

Also I find it offensive that you infer that I treat footy as more important than the issue of sexual assault and you should take it back.

My point throughout the whole thread is about fairness. It is not fair for ANYONE to be assumed to be guilty before it's been proven.

You obviously have had bad experiences with the legal system and for that I'm genuinely sorry but please don't tar me with the same brush as the Neanderthals that you state would back a footballer no matter what. It's not my go and I'm sure the people I've met through this site would back me up.

Yes they can. As an optimist I wholeheartedly agree and tell myself that regularly when I embark on a new health kick.
Good player on his day but he aint Plugger so I wish him well and hope he can resurrect his career but am reasonably confident I will watch that from afar.

I don't see the point of all these explanations really cause it just seems to me that any footballer bought up on charges of rape brings out hysteria from football fans. They seem to feel these poor souls are being shafted by some sneaky female whose out to make the mans life hell and ruin a football side as well. There is always a groundswell of support for these players, especially the good footy players not because they are known to the fans but because they are vital to their teams. It is really quite perverse.

Having spent a fair few years in Melbourne in the sort of venues that AFL players hang around, and moving in similar circles, I can tell you for certain that Lovett wasn't the first, and certainly won't be the last to be implicated in this sort of behaviour. Innocent or guilty, rightly or wrongly, AFL players, and the women that they associate themselves with, are going to find themselves in these situations. BOTH undoubtedly contribute to this type of outcome. How much by each party is anyone's guess.

I'm not saying ALL AFL players are testosterone charged knuckle draggers prone to having an over inflated opinion of themselves. Nor am I saying that ALL the women that seek them out are dumb scrags. Just the majority.
