Top work from the reporters, for us southerners it is heartening to hear some positives, especially after todays effort down here!Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun
I always turn to the sports pages first, which record people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures......Earl WarrenComment

Great work guys - I nearly ventured out across the border to see the game but decided to watch the seniors on telly insted - what a truly awful decision that was!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

As selected by the Swans:
Best Players: N. GORDON, D. MCNEIL, J. MOORE, G. ROHAN, J. LAMB, N. MALCESKI
They got it right.
Mal's kicking is still a worry but he was so classy you could almost forgive it.
McNeils best game for the club. Sat next to the stat guy and all I heard all day was Handball McNeil, Kick McNeil etc etc and it's mostly around the stoppages.
Bulldog was a little general as usual and is too smart for opposition at this level...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Thanks to the ressies reporters for bringing a ray of joy to an otherwise bleak Sydney day - in every way. Just got home from Melbourne to find, surprise, surprise, it pissing down with rain. If it has been all day then I suppose missing the first 21 and a half hours of it is the first positive of the day.Comment

Pleasant drive sth in the black flash, to be greated with an awesome day in Q'beyan. I love Dairy Farmers, its a cool suburban venue with neat stand and OK steak sangas! AGREE with ALL said beforehand. Was enjoyable sitting next to you BigAl, but please wear LONG daks next time, it does get cool as the sun sets!! Few extra comments to follow:
TDL- can kick a goal, but knows he needs to work on his def pressure to cement 1s spot, so why doesn't he try doing it in the 2s ??? Tackling the opposition, work rate, and ability to put his melon over a hard 50/50 ball needs serious work!
Malceski- as mentioned his normally sweet lefty was off the radar today, and me thinks he put someone else's boots on today.
Lamb, Rohan- good. But lets not try and get back into the 1s by jamming a couple of weeks worth of ressie games into our first comeback.
LJ- looked for the best team options when entering the fwd 50 which was very positive. Once upon a time Lewy would have just targeted goals from way to far out. I do hope his ankle is OK, he left the field of play on the far side of the oval which meant to going back on, so the verdict at that point in time was sorta serious.
Spangher, McNeil, Moore, Heath: all good. And yes, Taipan and I agree the DOG would make a good coach!
McKaigue- def was very sound today. I do love when he streams outa def demanding the pill extremely loudly and continuously. And when actually honoured he belted it OOB at nearly right angles to the interchange. This side of his game really needs work if he is to be retained on next years list (imho)
Pyke- was good, and got a little frustrated when not getting enough game time. But these things are monitored and he needs to be patient and positive. Maybe a few extra runs with Canada in the IC'11 would work?
Gordon- BEST TILL LAST. Dropped a sitter mark in the first few minutes and I thought bugger me, please don't disappoint. BUT, other than one free kick against him after rag dolling the opposition defender as he was trying to escape the Tigers Def 50 - his game was near as perfect as it could be! I struggled with last week as the young NIP was named as an emerg and when McVeigh was omitted they replaced him with TDL. I thought at the time a like for like was the correct move, and NIP could have been a fwd/goal option as well as run with player, streaming up and down the flanks (his engine and legs are supreme). But no cigar. To have left him OFF the emerg list this week didn't make sense then, and I thought to my self what sort of message would this be sending and how would the young fella react today?? Well he told the selection committee exactly what for !!!! I was the player that should have been promoted last week and this is why!!!!
He was not benched once all game and in the dying stages of the match after running a half marathon already, he sprinted with every last once of petrol in his tank to a raking 60m punt outa def to the wing, and full length dive nearly took the mark of the century. Right infront of the grandstand. It was controlled for a milly second and popped out when his frame landed on the turf. He hobbled off thru the interchange with cramp, but went straight back on in 10 secs to run the last 5 mins out. Crouchy said at the last change, I want you guys to finish off the last qtr to AFL first grade standards, NO stopping, NO lack of intensity! NIP WAS that statement!
If he can keep his 'aggression' centred on attacking the ball, def pressure, and hard running, and cut out the occasional free or 50m against - his ALL round game and flexible positioning means he has got a very tasty all round package. And should be rewarded with a 1s gig next week !!! Thats in my humble opinion.Comment

hehe... I'm a shorts wearer mate even in the dead of winter. It's one of my eccentricities. It was terrific to meet you as well and I agree with all this.
How funny was the 50m penalty against the Swans when the Umpire indicated a Swans Free kick, we threw the ball to a Swans a player only for the Umpire to realise he pointed the wrong way and still penalise us 50...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. The Umpiring mafia told me that the ump although indicating the wrong way DID tell swans players to give ball to "BOB" = Tiger Player, so that advise should have been followed. Thing is not a lot of players actually make sense of what umps tell them! Can you image if they were traffic controllers in the middle of a busy intersection. Yikes!!! Oh, that did end up in a Tigers goal also!Comment

The umpiring was comically bad. Remember the free paid to the Swans when Jesse crunched Lamb (?). Queanbeyan player about 2 metres away finds himself with a free against him, Lamb and Jesse have a smile and keep their mouth shut.
Plus their continued inability to bounce the ball. Because of them, I had to spend 5 minutes more in that shocking cold than I otherwise would have had to.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment
