Hope this is not someone here, or that you know.

A 32-year-old Albion Park man has died and his partner is critically injured after they were struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Melbourne on Friday night.

The couple had travelled to Melbourne to watch the Sydney Swans game against Richmond at the MCG yesterday as a belated birthday gift for the woman, 31.

        EDITED: Poor taste

Seriously though, that's terrible news. Hope the woman pulls through.

            Sad.

Life meeting fate. Sad news for what was probably a romantic weekend away.

I can't remember anyone posting here living down Wollongong way that was around that age. There's a few in Long Bay. That's sort of down that way.

Just saw this today. How many special birthday trips have we made awy to watch a game? Can we do anything R&Wers to show solidarity? Scott?

That's a nice idea, Primmy. I'd be happy to contribute, it does mention in the article that there's an account that's been setup.

Could our member services contact on here for the Swans (sorry, I've forgotten who it is) look into whether any charities are lined up for anything at this weekend's game against the Saints? If not then perhaps a bucket donation collection from Swans fans attending the game, possibly with the club matching dollar for dollar (not sure of the state of the coffers this year, I admit!), may be appropriate. We certainly have enough game day folks out there, it wouldn't hurt to ask them to hold a bucket whilst they handout whacky advertising knick-knacks.

Just expanding on the bucket collection idea, it probably wouldn't be that hard for the AFL to do it at every ground this weekend and match it dollar for dollar themselves, and would end up being a huge things for the kids. Business hat on for the AFL- I doubt they'd get much better publicity in NSW this year with GWS coming in next year than that action.
