For those not on Facebook the details are:
Account for the children's trust find has been set up. Very special thanx to everyone at the IMB Dapto
    Bsb 641800
    Acc # 200621702
name IMB Society Ltd ITF Marino Family Appeal
The account will be overlooked by Karens sisters as their way of keeping hers and fernandos memories alive.

I'm going to donate. Supporting fellow Swans fans should be part of being in the same club, I feel. Hearing that news while still seething from the loss gave back perspective.

Very sad. Awful for the kids. Thankfully there is family there looking after them.

I also find it a bit tasteless that the SMH feels the need to bisect an article of this nature with some goofy advertising. Very poor form.

Terrible, terrible news, even more so now that the wife has passed away. Yes it does put things into perspective, my best wishes to the 2 young children and family of the couple.

So sad indeed - tragedies like this really puts footy and life into perspective! Lets hope the AFL can get behind the cause as well, as the poor kids will need all the help they can get.

Just the saddest story possible. I've donated but would be happy to participate in any RWO contribution.

I?ve been thinking about the ages of these kids and the period of time that they will need to be supported. There?s no doubt it?s a wonderful thing to make a donation, but I began to think about the long term picture, what happens when this initial pool of money dries up? Is there a more sustainable option? I?d like to propose that RWO members keen to make a contribution commit to a weekly payroll deduction of a nominal amount, even five bucks would suffice (or whatever the individual can afford). If we had 30-50 members committing to such a scheme that would provide a minimum of $150 a week which at the very least would be helpful, and its unlikely that it would make any significant financial impact on the individual donor.

Any thoughts? Could such a proposal have legs?

Sounds a fine idea to me, no idea how to organise set up and running of such a thing but quite happy to contribute to something like this.

Whilst this is admirable, how it works (in my thinking anyway) is that the amount that is raised is invested in a term deposit and rolled each anniversary. Interest is made in payments to the recipients of the term deposit (the kids in this case) . To get the $150 per week you mention, a term deposit at 4% needs to bring $7,800.00 per annum, which requires an amount of $195K in the term deposit. A term deposit at 3% returning $150 per week, would need to be $260K. The initial amount in the term deposit will always be at the recipients disposal in later years.

Disclaimer, I am not employed in a banking type scenario. Matter of fact, I am useless with money. But this is just common sense.

I am happy for a member that knows about these things to correct me.

In the meantime, I will be making a personal donation on behalf of RWO.
And I hope the fund reaches more than 250K and the percentage rate is higher than 3%.

You can easily get interest rates of over 5% on amounts over 100k. With the cost of raising funds offshore being high due to the GFC the banks are relying a great deal on domestic deposits to fund their loan book. It's why you'll get generous interest rates at the higher deposits. So to get your $150 per week target at 5% you would need an investment amount of $156,000 with interest to be paid monthly.

Edit: Best rate for 100k+ at my financial institution is 5.8% for a 12month term.

I have it on good authority that the Harbour City Saints supporter group took up a collection at their St Kilda Aftermatch Function yesterday. Not sure how much they raised but every dollar counts.

Kudos to the Harbour City Saints
