The Draft - Victims of our own success

In regards to Cyril Rioli - anyone who has read 'The Draft' by Emma Quayle would probably agree that there would be some serious doubts about Rioli's ability to settle in Sydney. Was extremely homesick in Melbourne even with some family around so moving to Sydney with no support network wouldn't have benefited him at all and I'm not sure he would be anywhere near the player he is now or even still at the Swans. Don't think it was a mistake to overlook him as much as I would love to have him in the team.
In reality I think we've overachieved so far with the youth coming through but give it a few years with top draft picks Rohan, Johnston and Jetta cementing a spot in the team and mid range picks Hannebery, Parker and Reid improving ... We could yet be lauding our recruiters! You can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

Off topic but Gong Swan do you know the Gong couple injured in the road accident after the game on Sunday? If so, my commiserations.Comment

No, I didn't get that. It does say that he was very close to his Mum but there is no mention of moving away being a particular problem for him, whereas with Cyril it was mentioned many, many times that all teams wondered how he would settle into Melbourne let alone an interstate team.Comment

Has anything happened post draft that suggests he struggled to move away from Melbourne? He has struggled to get himself fit enough to play AFL. That is about it. His failure to play any games this season for the Dogs (despite them travelling worse than we did last year) suggests Melbourne vs Sydney is not /was not the issue.Comment

All I asked was if Vez was viewed in a similar light by recruitersComment

I asked a simple question about the book and I got a 5 line response which completely ignored the original question I asked and then proceeded to talk down to me about Vez's shortcomings as an AFL player
Jewell managed to answer what was a straight forward query without being condescendingComment

I thought Liz did answer the question. The way you phrased it made it seem like you were asking if Vez had any troubles moving away from Melbourne. As for condescending, remind me never to reply to a post of yours for fear of being falsely interpreted as condescending... Oh wait, @@@@, was that too condescending? Sorry, I'm just not sure, what with... Oh god damn, am I still doing it?Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment
