    The best thing yesterday..

    ... was the pre-match function.
Things went downhill from there, but it was a pleasure to watch Grubby at work pulling in old players from South, exchanging banter about games played 50 years ago; he really knows his stuff (and he was clearly cranky at the half-time break). He would make a great B&F compere, no slight intended to Adam Spencer. Also good to see Tony Morwood working the room and a new generation of Swans fans becoming part of the story.
The downside was that it was overpriced (no free drinks OK, but nearly $17 for a wine and a beer) and undercatered. I assume the club made a few bucks and that I don't begrudge.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I for one am well sick of Grubby and his deadpan schmuck delivery and Adam Spencer is a hack let's get some new blood.

At least the players are as disappointed as the fans are. http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/n...2/default.aspx

Don't know too much about Adam Spencer but Grubby is the lone Swans voice in the Melbourne media. On radio, he's a loud, proud and passionate Bloods fan in a town full of media commentators that seem to either barrack for St.Kilda, Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn or Collingwood and he's done a great job at all the Swans functions I've seen him at.

Agree Sandridge, without Grubby, the swans functions would possibly be a bit of a bore.
He knows how to get the crowd going and has a great recall of the game, and past games.
Yes, it would be nice to have someone different occaisionally, but Grubby us as much a part of the Club in Melbourne as anybody.
          He's Proud and passionate.

What's wrong with Adam Spencer?? Emceed the last couple of Club Champion dinners and did a great job imo.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Nothing wrong with him at all. He does a fantastic job of moving some of the more chatty ole fellas on in their stories when they get a bit lost on memory lane, sets the young boys up nicely with questions they can answer without too many blank looks, and he LOVES the Swans.

Adam is a gem of an MC. Knows its not about Him. Knows its about the boys and he knows how to get them chatting. Excellent work every time. Much much much better than one other I could mention but without sounding too churlish.

The 'other' does so many of those functions that he really does think it's about him..AND he needs to do up his coat too!

Adam Spencer is head and shoulders above most - when he hosted the Chairmans luncheon a few years back - his fellow hosts were Tony Squires (who is annoying at the best of times) and the absolutely embarrassingly irritating Rebecca Wilson - he just stood out as being totally professional, he wasnt even trying hard, its just that he wasnt jibbering idiots like his sidekicks.

Craig Willis does indeed have the best gig going around though - its not all hard work really, being flwon around to the best sporting events in the country, introducing the people in charge, chatting to sporting legends and getting paid handsomely for it. having said that - he is getting a bit long in the tooth now, perhaps hand the batton over to someone new.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
