Don't be so dismissive and patronising. We have him, we are paying him. 12months ago he more than helped us past round 1 of the finals. There's underperfomers in the 1's. He has been an emergency for a few weeks, so he is close.
If your not best 22 on current form then make way! Current team form says there is room for improvement!
If you think it's dismissive and patronising whoever's insulting you isn't doing a good enough job.
He's a back-up/depth player. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

In 2010, Bevan managed to solidify his place in the senior side again. He played mostly in defence but also appeared in the forward line, where he had trained all off season, to good affect. His best game of the year was possibly the Elimination Final against Carlton, where he played as a small forward. He was dropped along with Jesse White the next week however as Ben McGlynn and Daniel Bradshaw were brought back from injury. He requested a trade to a Victorian club due to his omission from the finals side, but no trade was arranged and he will be a Swan in 2011.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

This is actually an interesting and worthy thread. In my opinion, you can't make any sensible case for Bevan still being on our list in 2012. But you can make a sensible case for him playing out 2011 as a defensive forward, at least until others step up with infinitely better defensive pressure in our forward 50 than we dished up last weekend. Depends on how much the club values making the finals as an end in itself, rather than focussing entirely on developing youth for the longer term.
I've previously argued/conceded that there is virtue in itself in making the finals, even without any realistic prospect of going anywhere in them, because getting a final into young players is worth any number of H&A games.
So while I pretty much always internally groan when I see "In: Bevan..." in the Thu night team lists, I reckon that by the sheer brutal forces of logic, I'm now on the 'bring back Bevan' bandwagon!
But for the love of god, do not play him in defence. Not even for a second.Comment

The problem with the forward line isn't defence (as extensively argued in the Forward Structure Thread). Don't hold out hope for Bevan (of all people) to be the Messiah, because he's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
The Swans were falling off tackles all over the park on the weekend. I wouldn't expect to see more of the same this weekend.Last edited by Bloody Hell; 17 August 2011, 12:37 AM.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Some years ago I noted with interest a little known fact that Bevan was second only to Nic Davis in goal kicking accuracy. I found his selection in the backlines by Roosy and later Horse strange when his obvious game changing stuff ups in the backlines were killing us and we were crying out for defensive forwards. His 3 goals in the final against Carlton should have been enough to cement his place in the side as a forward. They were not, time passes, the opportunity is lost. However IMO it was a case of poor player management.Comment

Right now, we could really use someone who can kick the easy ones.To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment
