We're just so goddamned one-paced around the ball. Bolton, Bird, Hannebery, McVeigh, ROK when rotating in the middle. Nothing in that list to make any other midfield combo in the comp fear they'll be run off their legs. Kennedy has a tiny bit of toe but is not true express; McGlynn looks like he's off his full pace at the moment, which is at best medium-quick anyway. Jack for whatever reason hasn't been breaking lines as he probably should. Parker looked disappointingly slow in a couple of important chases in the last quarter, running after players who had already played 3/4 of footy more than him. If Meredith was top-flight in his disposal/decisionmaking (Hannebery, McVeigh) or contested-ball-winning ability (Bolton, Kennedy, Bird when on song) then we could forgive having yet another medium paced midfielder. But at this stage, he's not. And we don't need to give another young midfielder a run just to develop one and counterbalance an aging list. We've got a heap of young midfielders. We just don't have a heap of young, quick midfielders.

You have to keep giving Jetta chances while he's doing the slightest fraction of anything at all because he along with some of the defenders (esp Shaw) and the perennial Goodes, are the only ones who look like providing the merest spark of pace. And when teams are so professional in their defensive structures and tactical play (well, okay, teams excepting Port Adelaide), you increasingly have to have a bit of pace to throw the cat among the pigeons and create a bit of panic.

This is why Jarred Moore and Brett Meredith are both fine players, both of whom I fear may not be the right fit for this Swans squad at this time. And this is why a big burden will probably fall on Gary Rohan's shoulders, if we're to rise significantly up the table in 2012.

I wish someone would sit down with Jet and show him an extended highlight collection of Paul Williams and say,"This is what we want you to do" and coach him on the details. He is quicker than Willo was, is an excellent kick when he shrugs off the yips and if he fulfilled his potential has a great contribution to make.
Back on topic, I'd like us to persevere with Meredith. He hasn't had nearly long enough yet.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Re: Jetta, he has impressed with his handballing, he is really good at judging when to release the balls to the advantage of his teammates. When he can get the ball back from a teammate, run and deliver to a leading player consistantly, ala maxy any willo he'll create a lot of attacking movements. Just need patience, the former two wern't stars at 22. For mine, Meredith deserves a good go as well his kicking is probably in the top five in the team. After a few games, when he's getting more of the ball he'll learn where the forwards are running too more and deliver well.

Yeh, but doesn't get where the ball is at very often and when he gets there is not very happy about it. And they subbed off Meredith!!

As with all young players it's difficult to come in and set the world on fire unless you are overly naturally gifted, they can't all win rising stars, but given anough games to get up to speed and feel like part of the team, players mature into a role. We need to settle on a team and stick with it, I suggest this is why they kept playing Tadgh
