I just went over to the Saints BF thread and it is great! There are a couple of reasonable comments there, but then you come across those who talk about the Sydney crowd's lack of knowledge of the game *yawn*, the umpires always giving the Swans an easy ride in Sydney, etc and you just have to laugh.

I recommend it for some lighthearted entertainment if you can keep your cool.

33 scoring shots from 69 inside 50s....how many inside fifties did we have which were marked UNCONTESTED (or uncontested mark dropped) by the defence.....15? The average afl stat for goals/inside 50s is 25% isn't it? And we are the worse (with GC) at 16% or so....from memory...can anyone recall where you can get those stats....definitely seen them mentioned this year. I think Richmond was #1 at 33% or something ridiculous. 25% of 69 would equal 17.16.....which would have been a bit more like it!

Well I can understand "the lack of knowledge of footy" gibbs with the total whank of having explanations of why the umps did what to whom up on the boards. I mean do they honestly think we are that stupid, I mean the ones who have been going to every game for the last fifteen years, not the ones who have been going to every game for the last eleven years. You have to draw the line somewhere. Am sending a note "please explain" to swans right now.

I'm pretty sure that was part of the International Cup celebrations with the match before the game and all the teams and officials in attendance ...

Then wouldnt that in itself be a little condescending if they are representing their countries in an international competition and we feel that we have to explain rules to them?

Right. I have done that on the Feedback site for the Swans. Anyone want to join me?

PS: It wasn't being shown during the IC game....I was there....only being shown to the Swans members. Wish I had used the word Condescending in my whinge. Instead of ignorant, stupid and moron.....

Off topic but ... two great uses for the much maligned cumquat.

                  1. Simply the best marmalade is made from cumquats
                  2. Put one or two cumquats in the bottom of a tumbler and smash them with something heavy. Add some ice. Pour over them two shots of good gin. Add some tonic water (optional but I like a bit of fizz). Heaven.

                  I love my cumquat trees.

On topic. I thought we were a little bit stiff once again at the hands of Razor yesterday.

I too blame that stupid coke zero ad for our horrendous goal kicking! aside from that, I'm quite happy with the win yesterday

I think I take footy too seriously though...it's amazing how much the outcome of a footy match affects my mood, haha!

                      +1

On the bright side, it was clearly an acknowledgement that there was 'an issue' with the umpiring at the last home game! Insulting in the extreme that 'they' (the club, or more likely the AFL) responded to it by treating us like uneducated *cumquats* (word of the day for mine) who need to be told what should be obvious to see! More telling was that the screen occasionally took a while to catch up, and was silent on a few calls - appropriate really because there was the usual amount of befuddling 'what rule was that' decisions made.

The best one was when the screen remained blank/silent when Hanners kick went near the prone Dempster and play was halted then restarted with a ball up. Surely the play should have restarted with Hanners re-taking his kick!

The biggest insult of all was that the AFL saw fit to assign us Bubbles for consecutive home games! The only thing missing from his kit was a raised middle finger carrying a 'with love' tat painted on his back!

I've just finished watching the very end of the game telecast. Did anyone else note the complete mismatch of the audio and visual of the boys singing the song? Total Hercules Returns moment.

I found it pretty entertaining actually. We started beseeching "Oh Oracle the Scoreboard" to provide enlightenment on some of the more bizarre decisions. Cracked up when the definition for "Behind" couldn't cope with the "Rushed Behind" and was quickly removed. Beer makes everything better.

But seriously, if it helps new/first time Sydney spectators get into the game, I really don't care if Melbourne clubs think we're numpties for having it. They think that anyway, so who cares? Why shouldn't the Sydney footy experience be different to Melbourne's? Better, more fun, more inclusive, more SPORTING. They can keep their dour, boring, arrogant, if-you-don't-know-the-game-stay-home attitudes. Let's just play the way we did on Saturday and let them sound like idiots when they say Sydney doesn't know and love footy.

I saw the game for the first time last night. Loved the intensity and how we dominated the "up and coming" Saints everywhere but on the scoreboard (well, the goals side of it anyway). How good is any win when you show up Saint Nick, Milne and Schneider as flat track bullies who fold when the going gets tough? To paraphrase what Commetti once said of Judd, I loved their easy misses. Nick isn't unusual as a poor kick on goal but the commentators saying how Milne never misses as he kicks out of bounds on the full was a full laugh moment for me.

btw was there a free given to the Swans that wasn't "lucky" while the Saints were unlucky not to be paid one every time they were touched? There was one where Mal got a free for having two Saints wrapped around his neck that was "very lucky". And every Saints kick was an act of genius while each of ours (except Goodes) was called a shank or worse. Despair!

                              Desired effect

Without mentioning names, I think a certain thread expressing outrage and indignation after a recent game had some effect on Sunday. A certain individual had clearly changed.
