On my reading of it, the Sydney share of the figures was 121,000 out of 922,000 (network total) which I don't think is altogether bad. On the same night the NRL games attracted the following audiences in Sydney Manly v Cowboys 450,000 and Broncos v Warriors 380,000.
Total audience was 1.177 million (says AFL).
Of which Sydney was 922,000 (says TV Tonight). Obviously, numbers from this source do not add up to AFL source.
No idea how that compares with anything else! But 1 in 5 Sydneysiders sounds OK to me.
I suspect that the difference in figures between network total and the AFL figure of total audience could be PayTV and other online sources.
Sydney is still NRL heartland so to get 121,000 people to watch live AFL is not a bad achievement in my book. Mind you, that's a Swans game. Would be far less for a game not involving Swans. Hence the importance of a strong Sydney side to the AFL.Run2Live,Live2RunComment

1 in 5 Sydneysiders sounds almost too good to be true, considering how some of our home-and-away games usually rate.

You are right, I misread the numbers at that link (they are not very clear!). First number is total for the network (922,000) of which Sydney 121,000 and Melbourne 471,000.Comment

Always expected the live coverage in Sydney once the Swans were involved. Not a big issue there.
Being in Melbourne over the weekend, bravo to Channel 7 for showing both finals live and boo to Channel 10 who ruined the West Coast game for me with their delayed coverage.Comment
