Eade's coaching record (split from Berbakov thread)
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTTags: None -
The Swans reached a preliminary final the year after Eade departed - hardly what I would call leaving the club floundering.
It suggests our list was in pretty decent shape (with the recruitment of Hall a notable achievement, and Goodes ready to hit his prime) and just needed a bit of a fresh voice to liven it up. -
No, it suggests a coach who wasn't getting the best out of what he had, not even close. The Swans reached a preliminary final the year after Eade departed - hardly what I would call leaving the club floundering.

He was sacked mid season, doesn't that tell you something?
In 2002 he left behind a fractured team (in little cliquey groups) of inhibited players in disarray, playing confused, directionless footy...with no conviction.
Much the same as we see now at the Dogs......A coincidence ? I doubt it.
IMO he'll never win a flag as a coach.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

He also left us with a legacy of players playing injured which Roos fixed. Mickey O got the shoulder op he needed and other players were rested or had medical treatment. Rodney has a rep for playing injured players & he continued doing this at the Bullies, I'm sure Higgins will be glad to get his injuries fixed now.No, it suggests a coach who wasn't getting the best out of what he had, not even close.

I don't get the negativity on Eade. It's a load of crap IMO. Great coach who got a lot out of two clubs, his biggest failure IMO was losing total control in 2002 (including not being on speaking terms with the board) and mis judging the Lockett return, I also would rate the 98 finals series as a flop too, I thought we were the best side in the competition, to scrape in over the Saints and then lose to the Crows (albeit in bad conditions) at home was disapointing, I should note that if 98 was played under the current top 8 format, the world probably would look a lot different.
Roos would have a similiar record if it wasn't for some crazy luck with Nick Davis, a St Kilda result in Launceston being overturned (getting us into top 4) and managing to avoid Adelaide in two finals series.Comment

I have always thought 1998 was a year that got away, but losing PK in about round 15 was the huge blow. With him in the team for the back end of the season things could well have turned out differently.I don't get the negativity on Eade. It's a load of crap IMO. Yeah, and I doubt he's the only one.He also left us with a legacy of players playing injured which Roos fixed. It will be interesting to see if Lake can now turn things around, after being, disastrously, rushed back from injury this year.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Roos won a flag, and within a point of 2......Eade 0.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

And within 4 points of 0 premierships, as Roosy says it takes luck to win GFs. Roosy is/was a great coach, but the 2005 flag isn't the only thing he was marked on and nor should a lack of flags be the only thing Eade should be marked on.
Eade took the Swans from 12th to a GF and then into a pretty successful 6 years and didn't accept failure (something our club accepted for a long time), he then did the same for the bulldogs and rebuilt them onfield. He's a sensational coach and I reckon has got better over the years. Yes he lost the players in Sydney at the end, but to be honest, I think the only senior coach in recent times that has kept his players on side for the whole journey is probably Mick Malthouse at the Dogs, Eagles and Pies.Comment

He isn't a sensational coach. He's a good but very limited coach. Eade probably isn't going to win many teams a Premiership, but he's a hard-arse and that's what the Swans needed when he came in. However, he wasn't going to take us any further, things were getting stagnant and stale, so he and the club parted ways. Unfortunately for the Doggies, like us, they needed more of a Roos than an Eade, so I think they made the wrong choice there. I reckon Eade would be a great fit for a club like Adelaide, Melbourne or Port at the present, or maybe even St Kilda (as they're still looking for a coach). And within 4 points of 0 premierships, as Roosy says it takes luck to win GFs. Yeah I can't agree with that, "very limited coach" is a perception that just isn't right. You don't deliver what Eade has delivered if you are are a very limited coach maybe his style has a use bye date, I don't know, but very limited coach is so unfair it's not funny. I clearly get that some on here have a pretty negative view on Eade, but I can't buy your statement about what the Dogs needed, he inheritated as mis managed list at the end of 2004 and rebuilt it and turned them into something of a powerhouse who would go painfully close over a number of years. He isn't a sensational coach. I'm obviously not going to change any minds on this board on Eade, but must say I'm a little surprised to now seeing people go as far as "very limited coach". Wow.Comment

Eade did a great job at the dogs with limited financial resources. I reckon if he'd had his 2nd chance at a club with a few $'s behind them he could have snagged a flag.
Everyone thinks Malthouse is a genius, he inherited a West Coast list with the most generous concessions the AFL has ever seen, while it took him 10 seasons to win a flag with Collingwood despite having the best facilities, recruiters, coaching staff and unlimited $'s at his disposal.
* I still think he's a good coach but not the messiahComment

Craig Bolton says hi! He was clearly hampered in the opening rounds of 2010 and was selected anyway. He broke down in round 3 or 4 and never played again. In fact throughout his time at the Swans Roos also consistently played players who weren't 100%.He also left us with a legacy of players playing injured which Roos fixed. Mickey O got the shoulder op he needed and other players were rested or had medical treatment. Rodney has a rep for playing injured players & he continued doing this at the Bullies, I'm sure Higgins will be glad to get his injuries fixed now.
Craig Bird is another example of a player in 2010 who was bought back too early from a foot injury, played half a game and then missed the rest of the season.
To suggest that Eade is the only coach who played injured players is just wrong
PS: Sorry Damien for getting OT
Welcome back Berba!!!Comment

What has Eade delivered? Dick all. Did nothing with the Dogs. He has left the Dogs in as bad a position as when he took over, if not worse, and to describe them as ever being anything near "a powerhouse who would go painfully close" is frankly ridiculous. They have never looked the least bit threatening for a GF with Eade at the helm. Whenever they made a PF they were always the fourth best team.Yeah I can't agree with that, "very limited coach" is a perception that just isn't right. I don't even have an opinion of Eade based on his Swans days. That was before my time. But watching him at the Dogs, I've never been impressed. They have not improved under Eade. He made them a top 4 side for a while, but not a Premiership side.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment
