The SANFL is a good place to get a second shot at AFL the draft.

      Thanks Primms.

Good luck to all 3 of those boys.

Brain was close to BOG at one of the Lakeside games last year so he has some talent.

I hope we see all three drafted in the future.

Murphy has picked a great club to go to if he wants to realise his dream of playing in the AFL. Nick Lower, Sam Rowe, Simon Phillips, Nick Duigan and Paul Puopolo were all playing for Norwood when they were drafted by Freo, Port, Carlton, Hawthorn, Carlton respectively.

Nathan Bassett is coaching Norwood. Pretty impressive apparently. After all they were second in the minor round. Unfortunately they didn't go on with it.

Murph was told that he was knocking at the door when he should have been bashing it down. He was given advice and guidance by the Swans footy department on what to do to leave no stone unturned, so I assume that the other boys were too. I look forward to seeing what happens next!

                Thanks Primmy, I care.

Agree that the SANFL is a good comp to try and raise your game to the next level and get noticed by recruiters.

                Is Murph draftable under Father-Son?

Awesome. I hope we have a look at Murphy in the future.

Interesting question. Presumably he is, unless there's some sort of age restriction.

Swap around Hawthorn and the last Carlton...

His dad was no teenage debutante, so perhaps the family matures slowly?

So how does it work with our academy going forward re selection of draftee's ?

ie with the academy how do we get priority on players under the draft system?

Academy players are dealt with in the same manner as Father-Son. We nominate them before the National Draft and other teams can put in a bid for them. If we want them, we have to use our next ND pick, so if we nominate Billy Bloggs and say GWS are interested and bid their pick 30, to secure Billy we will have to pick him with our next pick after pick 30 which may be pick 31 or as far after as pick 47.

Often nominated players won't get a bid from another team like a couple of the Father-Sons at Carlton and Geelong this (2011) year.

It's best value for us, and GWS, Brisbane and GCS who also have Academies, if you can get more than one highly rated nominee in the same year then you only have to use your next available pick. Western Bulldogs were big winners at the 2010 draft when they got Wallis and Liberatore for picks 22 & 44 when both were considered top 20 picks on talent.

I reckon the Academy will be a winner for us going forward so please support any raffles etc that fund it.

Looking forward to feedback on how these boys perform in the SANFL ... it is so hard to line up the form of the ACT and NEAFL, against the other 2nd tier comps, but I suspect that the gulf is narrowing.

i think the greatest advantage is that we can nonimate not only a player that we consider is higher then the pick we have been given BUT we can nominate a player of need.

ie if we NEED a tall and we have developed them in the academy and they are truly equal to or better then our current top pick etc we will pick them up worry free !

                              That is a massive advantage

I wonder how much it costs to run the academy ? I cant seem to find the financials on the sydney swans website ??
