    "For ressie watchers" the thread is titled so this is what I think ressie watchers could be watching early in 2012

    Fwd Moore Seaby TDL
    HFwd Everitt Spangher Lamb
    Mid Jetta Mitchell Gordon
    HB Lockyer Grundy Heath
    FB Brown Lynch Meredith
    Ruck Pyke Bird Parker

    Fair line up I'd suggest

      How did our number 1 defender in the ones get into the ressies. I will also be very disappointed if Parker starts in the twos. A really good prospect.

        I seriously doubt Grundy will be anywhere but the 1s....One of our first players picked in most weeks and an absolute key in our defence. Also IMO Bird, Jetta and Spangher will play more 1s then 2s in 2012 as well - but dont ask me how our best 22 will be picked...

          You really don't like Reg do you 707, I think this is the second time you have put him in the second tier. He was an All Australian defender two seasons ago! He was pretty good last year as well. Several of our RWO contributors, including you, seem to dismiss Parker as well and I have no idea why! Did he try chatting up your daughters or something He is one of the stars of the future and I can't see him in the resies this year unless he either loses form or gets injured. You'll find that the coaching staff have pretty high expectations of Luke Parke. You can tell that simply by some of the responsibility they gave him last year. I also think Spangs will be in our first 22.

            While I agree that Reg is far more likely to be playing seniors than reserves, he wasn't an AA defender two seasons ago. He was probably on the fringes of the squad of 40, and arguably unlucky not to be included, but that doesn't quite make him an AA defender.

            As for Parker, he will play senior footy next season but he is certainly not yet an automatic senior inclusion. We have an established brigade of similarly strong-bodied mid-paced onballers (including Jude, ROK, Jack, JPK, Bird) and the first 4 of those are certainly ahead of Parker in the pecking order at the moment while Bird arguably is too. Add in the likes of McVeigh, Goodsey and maybe McGlynn also rotating through the onball division and there isn't exactly a vacant spot yet for Parker to fill. If and when an opportunity arises, Tommy Mitchell might also be competing for that spot.

            Spangher will also see some senior footy in 2012, injuries permitting, and I liked what he brought to the forward line last year. But we have just gone out and recruited Walsh, and it is probable that the two of them are fighting for a single "second permanent tall forward" spot alongside Reid, remembering that we will also have a resting ruckman spending plenty of time in the forward line, not to mention Goodes. Even Jesse could yet surprise us and prove effective enough as a true tall forward rather than as a second ruck-come-forward.

              Are you saying Liz that Reg would not be in your first 22?

              Swans Official Player Profile

              "After a solid 2009 season, made even greater progress in 2010 and finished the year as one of the best key-position defenders in the competition. Strong overhead, he took more marks (158) than any other Swan except Adam Goodes. Appeared to tire at the end of the season because of the extra defensive responsibility following injuries to Craig Bolton and Lewis Roberts-Thomson. Finished fifth in the best and fairest."

              Seems to say the opposite to what you have said about him. He became a top defender in 2010 and was up for All Australian Selection. As with last year ROK & Jude will possibly play a bit more forward than on ball. The Hawks made a mistake when they thought they couldn't fit McGlinn and Mitchell into the same team (ask any Hawk supporter). The Hawk fans reckon they stuffed up with Joey too as the powers that be thought that with Sewell & Hodge Joey was surplus. I think we can operate quite nicely in the next few years with both Mitchell and Parker in the side. They are both talented players and they don't play the same game Liz.

                I am not sure how you can read what I wrote and come to the conclusion that was what I am saying. I merely pointed out that he has never actually been an AA.

                In terms of Parker, I think he has already shown the ability to play senior footy. But that is not sufficient to guarantee him a spot in the "best 22" at the start of 2012. He has competition for spots from the players I listed, as well as Hanners, who I forgot to mention. There are only so many spots available for players of a certain type, regardless of any subtle differences in their particular strengths or styles.

                  Only Goodsy from the Swans was in the 40 original squad members nominated for AA in 2010.

                    This is how I came up with my ressies team. Nice to have a healthy debate so all those who want some of my ressies players in the firsts, name who you are dropping out to make way for them. I know there will be Grundy out for LRT comments but we need LRT for the giant forwards and I don't think we can play LRT, Grundy and Richards every week as many teams don't have a lot of tall forwards.

                    I've taken the tack in selecting my first team that we didnt trade for Walsh, Armstrong and Morton for them to play ressies so I've taken a leap of faith in selecting them at the expense of others. I've also tried not to have players on HBF and HFF that are really out and out midfielders, like Bird and Parker. I've also tried to pick a versatile firsts team with the nowadays required pace and guys like Moore, Parker and Bird whilst I rate them are not the quickest going around so there is a limi to how many of these types we can have in the team at the expense of fleet footed types. So here's my firsts team

                    Fwd McGlynn White Morton (please rise to the occasion in 2012 Jessie, you could be a sensation)
                    HF O'Keefe Reid Walsh (I like the raing bull style of play displayed by Walsh in the International series, a bit Jack Darling like?)
                    Mid Goodes Kennedy Rohan
                    HB Johnson LRT Armstrong
                    FB Smith Richards Mattner
                    Ruck Mumford Jack McVeigh
                    I/C Bolton Shaw Hanners Malceski

                      Hannas plays mainly on the wing Liz. All of the others are followers. Or rovers and ruck rovers in the old language. Here is my side for the firsts and the players left over.

                      Backs: Mattner Richards Smith

                      H. Backs: Jonson Grundy McVeigh

                      Centre: Hannaberry Kennedy Rohan

                      H. Forward: Bolton Reid O'Keefe

                      Forward: McGlinn Goodes Spangher

                      Followers: Mumford Jack Parker

                      Bench: From Bird, Shaw, Jetta, Pyke

                      Emergencies: Walsh, White, Armstrong, Morton, Dennis-Lane, Roberts-Thompson (in no particular order)

                      Armstrong may come in for the first game but who goes out would be questionable.

                      So the leftovers would be; Armstrong, Brown, Dennis-Lane, Everitt, Gordon, Lamb, Lockyer, Malcheski, Meredith, Mitchell, Moore, Morton, Roberts-Thompson, Seaby, Walsh and White. Add to that the rookies in McNiel, Kruger, Heath, Lynch, Cunningham & Biggs and this is a pretty good resies list.

                        Swans have named their 2012 Academy lists - the u/19 Academy will logically provide the "top ups" for the ressies this year;

                        Notables from the list include;

                        Blake Guthrie and Nathan Kenny from last seasons u/18's appear the only "over ages" to remain ... assume they are there on the same basis as Murphy, Brain and co last year;

                        Mitch Crawford, Brandon Jack, Andrew Moody, Rory Pryor, Daniel Robinson and Stephen Wray all had some experience as u/17's last year ... interesting to see how they have developed;

                        Dylan Roos should get his first shot in a Swans jumper;

                        Our last round of Scholarship holders, Alex Jalloh and Lloyd Perris (u/17's this year) will also be expected to debut.

                        ... any info on any of the other boys?

                          How old is Dillon Roos then? The interest will be in the top ups this year to see if any come up next year on the rookie list

                            Thanks for that unconfuseme. Is Shane Potter another of the Potter brothers (Jackson and Nick before him)?

                            Beau Heeney, Thomas Keogh, Lloyd Perris, Jackson Pola-Smith, Yarran Jaffer-Williams and Shane Potter were all in the Under-16 RAMS last year

                              A handful of the U19 squad received SFL RS nominations last season - not bad as they would all have been just 17 years old. Details of nominees (and a brief description of the nominated players) can be found here:
