There are probably more I think there is a Whitten Cup also but I don't know who other than the Bullies play for it.
Carlton vs Collingwood, probably the biggest rivalry in the game, does not have a title attached to it. It is just Carlton vs Collingwood yet every time they play all the fans go mental. The 'Trevor Barker' cup and the Anzac clash are to raise awareness and acknowledge genuinely significant organisations and groups of people. The 'derby' and 'showdown' dont recognise anything, they are just a moniker for commentators to introduce the game as so it feels it has more significance. I think if the derby were called the 'Bi-Annual Love Match' both Fremantle and West Coast players would still want to beat the living @@@@ out of each other.

And anyway, if this game against GWS was going to have a name someone would've come up with it already.

And here's another thought. I don't think there ever will be a great Rivalry Round, until GWS actually beat the Swans. THEN we will be ravening, but not until then.

An ad in today's Biased Rag calls it Sydney Derby I.

It appears we may have a name. Does the different pronounciation make it original?

It's official - the White Ribbon Trophy.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm sure that this is a worthwhile cause, but why not an organisation that helps kids who are bullied on a footy field for this match?

How do you differentiate between bullying on a footy field and regular sledging, niggling, roughing up that takes place on a footy field? Or are you referring to players bullying their own teammates ?

Hey MB I think he's referring to the GWS boys Sat. night in particular.

From the Swans on Feb 3rd:

The award for the best player in the opening round Sydney Derby between the Sydney Swans and the Greater Western Sydney Giants is to be known as the Brett Kirk Medal.

Both clubs agreed that it would be fitting to name the Medal for all future Sydney Derby games after Kirk, who grew up in the NSW town of Albury.
