Mike Sheehan's last line in his article summed it up perfectly - "He was an excellent footballer; he was a great human being."
While football made him famous, he made a far greater contribution after football and leaves a legacy for thousands of people to remember him by.

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
