    How good is 7mate!

Isnt it awesome to see live free-to-air AFL in Sydney.

We got thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night games, all in the one week!

Finally, the TV rights are delivering for the sydney viewer.

My only gripe is that the 7mate for me (regional NSW) is one of the weakest channels so often get 'pixilisation' skipping of images etc. No other main channels (or their 2nd channels) have this issue.

it's great that things are finally improving in sydney in terms of afl coverage but they're going backwards in melbourne.
there was such a big deal made about "all games being free to air" for channel 7, yet in round one channel 7 only showed 3 games while foxtel had 5. I know we have it alot better than nsw, but as afl is so big here, it's a joke really.

Fox Footy also rocks for those lucky enough to have Foxtel. The only down side is good commentators are thin on the ground. Everytime I hear Brian Taylor I want to stick a knitting needle in my ear until I feel resistance.

LOVING four live games a week on free to air. I can see serious couch time coming up this season.

Agree, but he is hardly more irritating than "Doowayyyne" who, with the onset of another AFL season, has obviously been reminded, that they play Australian Rules Football outside of Melbourne.

              He was at his helpful best in the Weagles v Dogs game, explaining the rules;

"... for the benefit of our northern viewers, the player in front gets paid the mark ... "

... never mind that his explanation was simplistic, condescending and wrong, (and he was corrected), he is an annoying jerk at the best of times.

PS: Seeing that I have Foxtel, I am already thinking I will struggle to get through the season without excessive use of the mute button

Check your maths swansprincess, there were 9 games in round one. 7 showed 4 games, the Swans last weekend, then Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night. That being said we are getting way less footy that we did under the 9/10 deal 6 years ago when 5 out of 8 games were shown in Melbourne, now we only get to see 4 out of 9!

Talking of commentators, has Tony Shaw EVER said anything of consequence during a match..or even in the pre match nonsense where they stand out on the ground and blather?

Hate to be a wet blanket but I'm annoyed that the broadcasts aren't in HD. we had it when ch one launched a few yyears ago so how come we are going backwards?

                      I thought 7Mate was HD?

I've got Fox Footy anyway so have had little else on the tele for the last couple of weeks. Actually after the weekend I'm a bit footy'd out so I may have to limit FoxFooty to 1 hour tonight for AFL 360. Or maybe 2 to see On the Couch......

regardless of my maths skills, the point still remains the same: channel 7 said ALL games would be seen on free to air, they shouldn't have said that if it weren't to happen. And if you ask me, 4 games is not anywhere near enough shown in what is essentially the home of afl.

I think there are only a limited number of outside broadcast units capable of capturing in HD. At the moment it looked like 5 or 6 of the matches are done in HD. It's always a dead giveaway if the station logo is twice and sharp and clear as the actual picture!! Plus of course, if it is showing on Seven it can only be in 576p.

The difference when comparing to what's showing on ESPN etc is startling. The sooner they can switch off all the old analogue sets and start broadcasting all in HD, the better IMO.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

An article at the indicated that Fox thought that the 7 feed would be in HD as well, but it's not.

But I do agree with the original poster, as a Sydneysider it's just great having more free to air footy, particularly on a Friday night.
