Prayer Rooms at AFL venues??????????

Muslims are required to pray five times each day: at dawn, midday, afternoon, sunset, and evening. Prayer rooms are common place in society so why not at footy grounds. It doesn't hurt anybody and it might attract more of our Islamic friends to the footy so it's a win-win...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Not really a win win if we do that for them what about catholics, anglicans etc etc do we give a room to every religion.Fair enough they hav to pray 5 times its not guna kill em to miss a couple when their at the footy, you cnt please every 1.So IMO abide by our rules and regulations if they dnt like it dnt come to the footy
I'm not sure what the problem here is. Having a room hurts absolutely no one so I don't understand why anyone would be against it.
We live in a free society so as long as you obey our laws then you are free to worship whoever you choose...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Richmond accommodate Bacha Houli and he will bring more interest and supporters to the game from his community so to me it's not hurting anyone putting in a prayer room. It wasn't that long ago that players of catholic and proddy faiths wouldnt play on Sundays / times change and we have to move with the times. Would the question even br asked if we had an Islamic player on our list ? I doubt it.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

respect should be shown to all peoples and their beliefs, as long as all parties are respectful about it. Maybe when you travel next time you'll appreciate when a "local" makes an effort to accommodate you by maybe speaking English or being considerate that you may not understand local customs.
Islamophobia is common but I don't think it is a trait that the swans would preach.Comment

The prayer rooms are for anyone use not specifically Muslims ( though I'm sure there probably the only faith that use them, then again I'm not too informed on the subject of religion ) . Id go down to offer my soul to JC or Buddha or whoever if we were down by a point at 3 qtr time in the granny. Seriously though I don't see the big deal, as long as know one is inconvenienced by the beliefs of others then it shouldn't be an issue. But if they ban hotdogs I might have a problem...Comment

When those hotdogs become halal dogs because normal hotdogs offend those who use the prayer room, what happens then?
IMO, if a 3 hour game interferes with your religion, then make a choice....Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

That's when it gets tricky, and that's the kind of thing that does @@@@ me. Like the banning of Xmas decorations by councils and that sort of thing. This IMO is a PR stunt by the AFL that will probably have a minuscule impact on the number of Muslims that attend footy matches. I would think the % ( again I have no stats to back this up) of Muslims who actually pray 5 times a day in Australia wouldn't be all that high. Of all the Muslims I've worked with, went to school with, socialized with, I've never known any with that strict an interpretation of Islam. Im sure those that love footy and want to attend have found ways around the Prayer issue if they are the devout type. Bachar Houli himself said he prays before and after, not during the game. It's an AFL stunt, and at this stage it's not hurting anyone and I honestly think it will have close to zero impact on people's decision o attend the footy, the Muslims that do need to pray just have somewhere cleaner than a stairwell or carpark to do it.Comment

As I said above, as long the rooms don't hurt anyone there shouldn't be an issue.
However the political correctness around things like christmas is an entirely different issue. You'll find that the majority of Muslims cringe when these things happen. It usually emanates from non Muslim do-gooders trying to be morally superior to everyone else...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. Imagine no religion.
I wonder if you can.
Seriously?
Do the scientologisits get a room?
I like the scientologists. They're descendant from aliens.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
