Fair enough Jewels if the midfield was a one off failure. I can see Longmire on gameday changing things around but I guess that's more of a plan C than plan B. I acknowledge the injuries but Rohans not back this year. Mumfords a while away. I did not say the coaches weren't aware of the forward problem but it it is taking an awful long time to commit to something. We are all assuming TDL will get a full run but that has been assumed many times. Reid has been off for over a month.

The thread is about being contenders in 2012. I don't think it's bollocks at all.

Weird week. A lot of what I thought I knew about the league this year is pretty much out the window.

I think Seaby's inability against Maric or whoever he is was most telling. That made it harder for our midfield, which made it harder for us over all. Midfield looked spooked and turned over a lot. Defence was struggling being under attack so much. The stress obviously got to the players, they made a lot of uncharacteristic errors. Defenders running into each other. Midfielders passing/kicking to no-one in particular. It's tough watching back 2005 and 2006 games, the forward line was so dangerous back then.

Seems its back to business as usual, with one expert now predicting us to slide out of the eight.

Based on that, I'd say we're contenders again...!

Aaaaaand the answer is... "not really". I just got sucked in by one good win against Hawthorn!

I expect we will win enough games at home to sneak into the 8, maybe challenge for the 6.

I always felt this year was too early for us - the young guns that were killing it in the early rounds aren't all firing together at the moment - AJ, Parko, Hanners, Sammy etc etc. That's to be expected, they're just kids. There's plenty of improvement to come, which is great - but we won't be consistent enough to seriously challenge this year.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Please see my thread re contender thrashings.

Its an open year, its going to be about who has the best team on the park rolling into finals.

Were still top 4 n will b no lower than 5th should pies win tonight.

With bulldogs, bombers, geelong, gws and lions to come no reason we cant win 4 of those n still be up there before we take on the wc in perth who we are the last team to beat there.

It's starting to look like my premiership club rain poncho is really just an $85 plastic bag - hope I'm wrong though we've still got a long way to go.

Until we can find a functioning forward line that works week in week out, no. We have some wonderful players, but we rely on an even effort across the park and with so many young players in the team, that consistency is a little way off. We just don't have enough superstars yet to carry a flat team...

                    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

It will be interesting to read this thread throughout the year as one week when we win we start talking our selves up again then the next when we lose we find flaws that will keep us out of the top 8

Ah it's part of the demented, fun rollercoaster ride that we Swannies faithful strap ourselves in for every year isn't it !!!

Probably much the same feeling at Carlton right now, Adelaide too after losing to the Collingwood reserves. All part of footy

The flag is up for grabs. What more impetus and motivation do the Swannies need? It's there for the taking.
                              Go get it boys.

Too right Captain. I just hope it's not one of those teasing mediocre years that ends up in tears.
